ikea cabinet delivery..how to organize?
Comments (7)If your contractor has done an IKEA kitchen in the past, they may have a preferred organization system (you could ask). If not, I'd suggest putting all the base cab boxes together by like sizes, then all the wall cab boxes together by sizes, and put the hanging rails with those. They will build the boxes first. Then put all the doors together, by sizes, and the drawer fronts and drawer front sets, again by sizes. Keep the cover panels, appliance panels, toe kicks, and deco strips in the back of the storage space because you won't need those till nearer the end. Your hinges, drawer dampers, and door dampers will be packed separately, maybe all in one big heavy box. It will be loads of fun watching it all go together!...See MoreKitchenCraft vs Ikea cabinets
Comments (87)Not sure I should step back into these waters but after a lot of time, decision making, holdups with other parts of my house-my Ikea cabinets are currently being installed. They should measure for the (non Ikea) countertops later this week so we are close. The delay did allow me to take advantage of the Spring sale and save about $1000. Because I'm far from a store and had problems using the design software. I used a local service to design and deliver which has been horrible. Rude, missing pieces, wrong things ordered. But my contractor and I are slowly figuring out. We've removed EVERYTHING from the backsplash which will be slab marble-all of the lighting will be under cabinet and the outlets, plug mold. We also ended up removing the window as it was small and would have needed to be rebuilt because of leaks. The only decision I have left concerns a peninsula overhang which I'm leaning away from. Hopefully I will be able to post a picture of the completed soon....See MoreIKEA Kitchen Delivery Question
Comments (20)Numbersjunkie, I believe they contract with different trucking companies depending on where you live. A company called STI delivered 3 of my kitchens. The trucks were large and we actually had many shipments as quite a few items were back ordered. You might call back and explain your driveway. It would be a major pain to unload, load and unload again. I'm currently doing another kitchen and this time I picked up since they built a new store 2 hrs from me. It's a good thing I don't mind the drive and spending time at IKEA because it took several trips with back ordered items and the first trip I couldn't fit everything in my SUV. I will need another trip to swap damaged and incorrect items....See MoreAre Ikea cabinets really cheaper than Lowes/Home Depot?
Comments (35)Thanks all - the $4500 quote from our Contractor is including cabinets plus assembly labor for doing Ikea (I asked about this directly). This is part of a huge project that involves essentially building an addition, knocking out walls, moving plumbing and electricity, and more, etc. etc. I'm not sure how the $4500 breaks down to cabinets alone vs. labor, but I don't think he is charging much for the labor portion considering all the labor they are already doing on our house on this 5+ month project. I also think at this point reading through multiple threads that it's true we might easily spend more than that $4500 going to a Lowe's or Home Depot even if cabinets come preassembled. I got hopeful for a moment while in Lowes, but I'm now skeptical. We WILL likely cost out some options when the time comes, just to be sure in the end. It's just not at all worth the headache to us to try to DIY the assembly at that time for a number of personal reasons I won't go into....See Morequeensinfo
