They hauled individual boxes into my house. It was a stream of 3 guys moving nonstop.

I had a list and stood at the door to check things off.

All the kitchens I got from them came as individual boxes. You might want to call and see if they 'can' palletize them for you.

I second beachem's note to stand at the door with a prepared list. If you have the item numbers and quantity of each, then the delivery guys can tell you the info on what they have in hand on each trip through the door. (It will be impossible to go through the stacks and piles after they bring everything in, and they don't have time to wait that long.) You can then note any discrepancies on your delivery slip and let IKEA know to send missing items or schedule pick up of items mixed from someone else's delivery (both of which happened to my neighbor).

Can anyone tell me what you paid for delivery? The online tool says prices for large items (I assume this would include kitchens) starts at $350.

I paid $99 per order (and I had 2 orders because of splitting it to take immediate advantage of the gift card)

I should have mentioned that I am about 4 hrs from the closest IKEA store. I understand that I will have to order by phone to getting delivery outside of a stores regular delivery area. I'm buying about $4200 of cabinets if that matters.

I a 2.5 hours away but they have 2x weekly deliveries here (decent sized city). I don't think that "Home delivery" is the same as what they charge for kitchen delivery. I was also able to push out delivery - schedule it for 60 days after paying for it for $0 since it was all coming from the warehouse. They were really good to work with.

Wow - 60 days is great! I was worried that I would have trouble delaying until after Labor Day. I will call customer service to find out about cost.

Triple check your delivery. We've done two Ikea kitchens, a small mudroom and small laundry. It never fails that you don't get what you paid for; there were errors in all four of our projects. Fortunately for us, we have the means to easily haul stuff and we only live 30 minutes from Ikea.

Bummer. I just talked to them and it will be $349 delivery to our NC location. But she did confirm that delivery could be delayed. Now I'm wondering about having it delivered to our home in Balto area and having them load it into our closed trailer so we can take it down to NC ourselves. I'm sure it will be a heavy load, and we will have to unload ourselves but .....

You have more chances of damages the more times you load and unload. I would choose to have direct ship to the location of the installation. You may run into issues if there are damaged items if you do it the other way. They might not know at what point the damage occurred.

$350 for the delivery of a KITCHEN is not very much. This is where you pay for good delivery. You aren't ordering a bunch of sleeping bags...

Yes, I'm starting to think it is the best way to go. The only thing that worried me is whether the truck will get back to our house and not require they offload on the road and transfer into our trailer anyway. How big are these trucks? We had decking lumber delivered and DH had to meet the truck and transfer it into his truck - took several trips back and forth. That would make it not worth the money! Our driveway runs through the trees and is not very straight or wide. People get boat trailers in and out but they aren't very high so maybe that's the issue with the trucks.

Numbersjunkie, I believe they contract with different trucking companies depending on where you live. A company called STI delivered 3 of my kitchens. The trucks were large and we actually had many shipments as quite a few items were back ordered. You might call back and explain your driveway. It would be a major pain to unload, load and unload again. I'm currently doing another kitchen and this time I picked up since they built a new store 2 hrs from me. It's a good thing I don't mind the drive and spending time at IKEA because it took several trips with back ordered items and the first trip I couldn't fit everything in my SUV. I will need another trip to swap damaged and incorrect items.
