I have a pretty small house overall myself. And being built in 1931 back when people seemed to own one change of clothes and one coat, there are no closets and what few closets I do have, are tiny!! I have to keep my clothes in another room because my master bedroom closet is tinier than tiny! Keep the ideas coming! There's no worries about anyone "stealing" my thread! Storage ideas for one person can be adapted by everyone, so all discussions are welcome! I'm getting some great ideas I never would have thought of. I think I'm going to use the back of the kitchen door leading to the basement for storage as well. And I have to organize that "landing". I have a big box of cat food and litter, all the paper bags for recycling and plastic grocery bags as well, all the mops and coats ontop of the rest of the mess. You can barely get by to get up and down the stairs. I wish I had a place to keep my recycling bin in the kitchen. We have it out on our 3-season porch right off the kitchen so it's not bad, but I'd rather keep the porch less cluttered and not have to go out there when it's freezing winter to toss things. Recycling tends to collect on the one tiny piece of counter I have next to my stove as it's closest to the back door until it's falling all over the place before anyone will walk the 4 feet to the door to put it in the bin!! I did take some time this weekend to pull some things out of the backs of the cabinets and rearrange now that I freed up all the space by hanging all the pots and pans and lids. I now have easy access to all my French White casserole dishes in one place, on one shelf. Then I have all my 13 x 9 pans and cake/tart pans together. Right next to the stove I put all my old casserole dishes - the pyrex & Fire King stuff. That freed up space to have all my small serving dishes and trays/platters on another shelf, then I have all the bowls I use for dips and things when I have company and the bowls for the popcorn on another. I will still have to crawl in back of the cabinets for a few things, but those are things I only use a few times per year like my crockpot or the hand crank pasta machine. I do need to figure out what to do with my "machinery". The KA mixer, blender, espresso machine, pasta maker, etc. I just spent a small fortune because I'm cleaning and painting my son's room and I had to get him new furniture and a computer desk and I'm about to start a bathroom remodel as well, but I really could use a new cabinet for under the window in the kitchen that overlooks the back porch. I have one of those build it yourself partical board bookcases there now, but something nicer and with doors so the mess isn't open to the public would be better. I need to take some pictures and load them up so I can post them as well. I'm very visual - I learn by seeing way better than reading descriptions, so pics are great! Lisa

Odiegirl - It is a filler cut from the edge of a 24" 88 cover panel. They don't exactly have filler strips. The finished edge is against the cabinetry, and the cut edge will be caulked against the wall. westsider - I thought I wanted attached top and bottom. I wouldn't be able to get anything out if it was all attached. It would depend on where the cabinet is, and since mine is against a wall, I decided to do the door. Seemed too dark otherwise. I only made that decision after it was installed. Very flexible. gitanoel - i'm not sure i understand your question. the handles are the small and the next size up, lol. the small is like 6" from screw to screw. We DIY'd the whole thing -- but we're big on DIY and were on a definite budget for our kitchen. If we had to factor in a price for assembly and install, we would have had to give up something else. I assembled all the cabinets and DH, my dad and I installed them. We have 9 base cabinets (all but one with deep drawers or pull-outs) and one wall cabinet. We didn't have any hacks/modifications, but we did pull the base cabinets out from the wall for a deeper countertop. DH had a week off of work after Christmas that year, and I had some days that week as well. So we were able to get all of it done fairly quickly. There is definitely a learning curve to it. The first cabinet probably took me 45 minutes to assemble, but after that it was very quick. Do invest in a cordless screwdriver (preferably one with a little light on it). You have lots of little screw posts to set and cam locks to tighten. Your wrists will thank you. Also, for the drawer cabinets, I installed the rails on the cabinet sides before I assembled the cabinet. That way they were flat and out in the light where I could see them and I wasn't crawling inside the dark cabinets in cramped quarters working against gravity. Definitely utilize the resources at IKEAFans - a wealth of knowledge over there. And don't hire a contracter who pooh-poohs the IKEA assembly/installation process. The system WORKS.

@tmnca My floors are Goodfellow Original - Nature Series - Maple in Sierra The more you order, the more the price goes down. I paid a little over $4/sq.ft. It took me forever to find one I liked. I visited almost every flooring store in the nearby city. I literally spent months looking at samples. The sample of my flooring that I saw didn't have much variation but I like the colour. When I started opening the boxes for install, it had a ton of variation which was exactly what I was looking for so I was really happy. Opening each box was like Christmas for me haha! They look the best at night under my recessed lighting. It's almost as if it brings out features in the wood that you can't see in natural daylight. It does scratch easily though. Not scratches that you can see (although I did put a massive, extremely noticeable one in my kitchen but that was entirely my fault) but ones where if you look at them on an angle in the light they show up. Regardless, it's not going to stay perfect forever. I'm still in love with them. If you are installing flooring yourself and it has a lot of variation, it's not like just slapping down a floor. My husband and his cousins were doing it and I had to be there to select each piece to go down. It made it more time consuming but you don't want a bunch of plain pieces all bunched together. Just like the variations in the wood, you have to do variations across the floor. For places like the kitchen where the cabinets would be sitting, we put the most plain pieces down and saved the variation ones for places that you can actually see.
