Sounds like you have an infection in your tear duct. If it's happening often, it could be that either it never heals completely or there is something else triggering it. You may want to see a doctor, have it looked at and get some eye drops.

Sounds like conjunctivitis to me. I agree with lukkiirish , you should probably see a doctor.

I remember getting kind of translucent white stuff at the bottom after an itchy allergic reaction in my eye. I irritated it further by rubbing. I think the mucus like substance was to trap and flush the allergen from the eye. I could pull it out of my eye in a stringy piece.

I don't think a person's eyes are anything to mess around with, or take any chances with. Your eye may not hurt, but something is definitely not right. You should see a doctor about it!

The strange thing is that it your symptoms do go away without any medical treatment, but eventually reappear again. This is less indicative of a bacterial infection, as they usually require an antibiotic to go away.

Odd as it sounds, sometimes eyes fill up with goop and run when they are overly dry. My right eye did the same as yours, except mine never started with a red eye. I went to an eye doctor and he did a test on it to see how much normal lubrication that eye was producing.

Turns out I was suffering from dry eye syndrome. He gave me some sample eyedrops, but they didn't help much. He then told me to start taking Omega 3 fish oil capsules, because they help replenish the eye's natural lubrication. That did the trick and I've never suffered from goopy, runny eye syndrome since then. It was a relief, after having had it for about 4 years! But please go see a doctor, because you could have something completely different and as stated earlier, eye problems need a professional evaluation.

Could it be related to using something on your face, some makeup or moisturizer, a soap, a sun screen etc? My sister had been having red eyes and burning for a really long time, went to the doctor. He thought it was her eye makeup. She told me recently that she finally figured out it was her moisturizer that she'd been using for ages and she wasn't even putting it around her eyes, just on her face. After she stopped using it, she didn't have burning and red eyes anymore.

My usual response to someone with a physical problem is to "cut it off - amputate now!" That would not work with your eye. Thus, no advice from me.

What makes you think it's pus? What color is it?

Until you get to a doctor (I REALLY agree with others), you can put a warm wash cloth on it to get it drain. I like the idea of the baby shampoo being used as prophylaxis too. Why not do that every day?

OK it is gone now. I woke up this morning and it had a little bit on it.. I wiped that out again with the baby wash stuff and that was the end of it. That is the reason I have never gone to a doctor because by the time I would get there it would be gone. At least now that I wrote down the date if it happens again I can say how often it does. No it isn't makeup or anything like that since I don't usually wear makeup and I hadn't for about a month before this happened. The color was a light beigy yellowish green just like pus. My eye really wasn't that red you could just see it a little bit, and that was probably from rubbing it a little bit. Picky your right about it being strange that's the part I can't figure out. Now that you say that I wonder if it isn't maybe dry eye.

Jim, I had to laugh at your post. I say the same thing, Except I say get a knife and it is a finger I say we'll cut it off at the elbow or if it is a toe we'll cut it off at the knee and so on.

If you can't get to the doctor in time, I would at least take photos of your eye and the goop (maybe even freeze a sample) to better discuss with your doctor the next time you are there. I would be concerned about the color of the discharge.
