I have not had that problem at all. Sorry I don't know what it could be.

It happens to me sometimes on other sites as well. I restart the computer and all is fine.

Yes every so often. Once there was kids on skates rolling by. Very annoying.

I think its happening on this site because of the banner ad at the top that expands when the thread title page opens. The ad is expanded for a minute or so then automatically closes. It depends on what ad is in the banner, not all of them expand automatically.

When I first open the Kitchen Forum, the scrolly up-pause-down thing happens, but it also can happen when I click back to the thread title page after reading a posted thread.

I use Firefox with AdBlock and have never had this problem. I'll bet Kode is right, it's the stupid banner ad. It may not be life altering, but surely annoying beyond belief.

I was just about to post the same damn thing. It is annoying to say the least. Makes me dizzy. This is the only site that this happens on for me. I will make a point to never buy any of the products hawked in these stupid banners.

If you use Internet explorer, you might add a few places to your restricted sites list. It might help.

Tools - Internet Options - Security - Touch the icon for restricted sites and then press the button labeled Sites.
Type the site that you don't want to do stuff into the box labeled Add the website to the zone and then press the add button. Be aware that by default it will list whatever web site you're looking at.

Bmorepanic - how do you know what to put in the box?

I believe it is the advertisers.
A while back Ads would pop up whenever you tried to
read a thread. It was terrible and GW fixed that, but
I believe with the ad banner at the top of the page,
they need to keep these to keep the site free for us.

If I see it, when someone complains about the ads I look at how the ads are currently being delivered by reading the gobble-de-gook of the page source.

I use some advertising supported software that is wonderful. I could swat the ads, but I don't for two reasons. The ad is actually targeted to something I could use and the ads don't move or flash or or make noise or get in the way of seeing what I'm trying to look at. I permit the advertising because it supports something good that I like.

I am also happy to permit the ads on a variety of sites that produce content - like newspapers, blogs and commercial television. I understand that the ads pay for reporters, photographers, etc. I still off the ones that move or make noise, tho.

On this forum, the terrific content is all user generated using old, weird software. We don't get iVillage sponsoring Q&A sessions with famous KD's or a chance to talk with famous chefs or the Bluestar engineers or Kraftmaid or the kitchen experts at Kholer. He--, we can't even get a FAQ area.

Thanks for the education bmorepanic. I totally agree and I understand the need for advertising and appreciate the opportunities offered on a lot of free sites, but some ads are so disruptive I would rather pay a fee so I could enjoy the site. If site owners would police these ads and make sure they are not causing problems, they would find people would be more tolerant of site advertising.
