Replaced blower motor... now filters clog SO FAST
Comments (10)They do appear to be collecting dust...although it doesn't look "dirty" per se. Not sure if that makes sense, but it is more white in color than "grey". But I can tell a big difference from a new one to the old one. The LED is flashing, but I would have to look at it again after to know the sequence. The furnace shuts off after a period of time because it is not blowing properly..... before it was because the blower motor was locked up, now it seems to be due to the filter being too clogged. The new blower motor is the exact same, yes...See MoreCarrier Infinity Systems Var. Speed Blower 2 stage heat & cool
Comments (2)We only have an AC system, kept the Veissman boiler for hot water heat. We installed the 17 SEER Infinity in a 200+ year old house with all new ducts. The system works like a champ sucking out humidity, cooling, great airflow and very quiet. The two stage seems to keep the fan on blowing at low even after the temperature is reached...my guess is that this is continuing to take out humidity. It's a great system, the air has never been cleaner and cooler and drier before. Very happy. We'll see what August brings!...See MoreBlower Motor - Rip Off?
Comments (22)Let's keep this thread going!!! My general contractor purchased a Carrier split system for our new home in 2007. He told us that we had a 10 year warranty on all parts and labor on it. Less than a year later it BROKE DOWN! So the original dealer came out and fixed it for free. I think the very next year, it BROKE DOWN AGAIN! But when they came out and fixed it, I was given a bill! So I called and told them I had a 10 year warranty on all parts and labor and shouldn't have been given a bill. That is when I found out that I DIDN'T HAVE ANY WARRANTY AT ALL because THEY HAD FORGOTTEN to register my system within 60 days of installing it! Since that was their fault, I wasn't paying for it and they ate that charge. The very next year, it broke down again! Ridiculous! So I called a different dealer and they fixed it for ~$150 which I had to pay since I had no warranty. I think it was the next year that it BROKE DOWN AGAIN!!! That time, I went back to the original dealer because the other dealer was covered up and they replaced a $200 part on it they said was bad but it didn't fix the problem. They eventually figured out the problem was that we didn't have enough air vents open so I didn't even need that $200 part! Idiots! But even more stupid was me agreeing to pay that bill! Then the next year it BROKE DOWN AGAIN! So, since I didn't trust the original dealer by then, I called another dealer and they fixed it for ~$175. Finally, after BREAKING DOWN 4 TIMES IN 5 YEARS, the system ran without breaking down at all for 3 years straight! Woo hoo! Unfortunately, this year, it's ALREADY BROKEN DOWN TWICE! Once for $165 and just this week for $1100! That is BS! I'm back with the original dealer who is telling me that my blower motor BURNED OUT AFTER ONLY 9 YEARS! And I live in middle TN so we only use our heat and/or AC maybe 8 months a year! So, IMO, Carrier products are TERRIBLE QUALITY! My old house had a Goodman heat pump and it's still there and working after 23 years and still has the original motor and compressor!!! I've only had to pay $100 on 4 different occasions in 23 years for a burned out relay switch on my old Goodman heat pump. So, CARRIER STINKS in comparison! There should be a lemon law for heat pump systems because I sure got a LEMON FROM CARRIER!...See MoreFurnace blower motor needs to be replaced on 21+ yo - fix or get new
Comments (34)That may have sounded like a political attack Elmer, now that I reread it. But I meant that as a joke. I believe it's true that licensing and regulations increase costs. In Texas, to get a *true* HVAC license and not just some registration with the state as in a technician --- you need 4 years of verifiable experience, someone with a *Real HVAC License* to vouch for you for that 4 years of experience, then you have to take and pass the HVAC license exam with a 70 or better. It's a timed test, but open book. It's by no means an easy test. You also need to have the means to buy and maintain General Liability Insurance. Open book is easy: uh, no. The test covers multiple books, the refrigeration book alone is like a phone book of a major metropolitan area that is if you're old enough to know what a phone book is. I believe it's a dumb approach when you have to pull a permit for everything and anything. It's mostly a money grab in my opinion. Those permit rules are implemented by politicians. We have to pull permits here in the city limits. Most of my work is in the county, there is no requirement to pull a permit in the county here. (That makes the job easier to get done and move onto the next job, which is important in this climate. California climate is nothing when it comes to air conditioning, in most cases. ) With that said, I know what the building code is in Texas and I follow it, even though I am not pulling a permit 99% of the time. ------------- The point that was lost though is that your climate would make it extremely difficult for an HVAC technician / installer to make a good enough living only doing air conditioning work. This is why I was against moving to a more moderate climate. I wanted to work doing what I wanted my career in HVAC to be about. Mostly air conditioning related problems. I don't regret that choice. The only choice I regret is not getting my HVAC license sooner than what I did. But I probably wouldn't have as much knowledge as I do from the myriad of employers I worked for over the years... seeing different ways of doing things. This is why I said: HVAC installer is a dead end job. I believe it would be true even for California, because you'd never make enough to support yourself *only* doing AC installation work....See MoreJerry P
