Do you drink with a straw?
Comments (42)How is a straw supposed to keep you from getting germs from a dirty glass? Doesn't make sense to me. Don't the germs get into the beverage from that allegedly dirty container from which you're drinking? Plus if you're a germaphobe straws are just introducing another potential source of germ holders so how is that going to keep you from getting diseases? And people have their hands all over a straw then their mouth goes on it so all the germs from your hands and those you're picking up from the table, the glass, unwashed hands from using the bathroom, purses and more are going into your mouth too. Straws are far from sterile to start with. Even wrapped ones are handled by people, dropped on floors, sneezed on and whatever else to say nothing of the bacteria and germs in the air and storage areas. Apparently I'm missing something here. I only occasionally use a straw. On a solid glass, never. I'll use it to stir the lemon into iced tea and that's it when it's a solid glass. I'll use the straw for a drink from a drive-up window when I'm drinking and driving (and now MADD can come after me!). I don't like open tops in the vehicle except for coffee. No straw or lid for coffee when drinking it. I do put a lid back on after I've taken a swig. And FWIW I order a fountain beverage without ice. It's plenty cold and doesn't need to be diluted any more. Plus you get more beverage for your money. And as a side note, if you ever worked in a restaurant or where there's ice machines you'll know why Marvin Zindler became (semi-) famous for "the big big big big big big 'S'! SLIME in the ICE MACHINE! :)...See MoreIced Coffee Anyone?
Comments (22)I often enjoy an iced coffee in the late afternoon while watching the news. But I don't use any special "recipe". I wonder how much difference a recipe would make? I use a dark roast coffee (various brands, like to try different ones) and brew it pretty strong. I have a cup or 2 in the morning, hot, with just non-dairy powdered creamer, unflavored. I do not want any sweetener or flavoring of any kind in my morning coffee! That morning coffee is used for my PM iced coffee. Put it in a tall glass, add cold, flavored creamer, add ice and enjoy. My favorite creamer is International Delight, various flavors, but Amaretto is my favorite. I had been buying the Starbuck's bottled Frappuccino in the grocery store, but they are fairly expensive. Then I finally got the idea of making it at home. Much cheaper and so many more flavors available. Rusty...See MoreDo you drink protein shakes or powder?
Comments (43)@roarah oops I'm behind on the posts. I'm sorry you're dealing with Sjogren's too. Not sure I have it yet, but waiting on blood test results. My mouth feels like permanent cotton mouth and when I go for a run I will at times go completely dry and not be able produce any saliva. Thankfully at night I have to wear a mouth guard so that seems to help at least producing some saliva so not as bothered at night. I'm a type 1 diabetic who through avoiding any sugars or foods that spike my blood sugar I maintain a 4.9 - 5.1 A1C which is in the middle of the normal non-diabetic range, so hence I'm not as worried about high sugar damage as most diabetics should be and do tend to focus on other things as being potential worries too. Unfortunately there isn't much data or studies on type 1's like me due to most not willing to do that, but I have to think that keeping my numbers in control like that puts me closer to the normal population as far as risks. I may start a new post once I know more if I have Sjogren since there are several on here with experience in this area. Sorry Oakley for taking things off topic....See MoreSpeaking of Coffee, what do you drink?
Comments (49)I love the aroma and taste of good coffee. I grew up with coffee drinkers. Bunny I know what you’re saying once in a while you get that unusual tuna note or sometimes the skunk note. I really love cilantro and when I first tried it did taste like soap and bugs. I had it with Mexican food and so it was mixed with lime. I use cilantro in a lot of Southeast Asian foods where it is often mixed with lime, Nampa or fish sauce, and sugar. Heavenly in a dish. There is a Thai seafood salad the dressing for which is Fish/lime juice and palm sugar. He has other things too. Sometimes Tea, roses and raspberries have similar notes. We’re not gonna talk about toe jam and cheese....See MoreUser
