I don't have many uppers but I am using my knobs on all the upper cabinets. I am using the handles in 2 sizes on everything else. The biggest drawers get a longer handle.

A little off topic, sorry! We are repainting??? our oak cabinets. Sounds like a huge ordeal, so I want to be VERY happy with it and I love your cabinet color, stain. Any info would be so appreciated! Thank you

Knobs on cabinet doors (except a relatively long one, like a pantry..you might find using a handle is easier there). Handles for the drawers. In case of large drawers-you might need either a longer handle, or two shorter ones.

Basically, go with what makes the most sense to you, in terms of functionality.

I did handles everywhere as they are easier to use.

I also used handles everywhere, same size.

I know you didn't ask for advice on the style, but I'm just imagining trying to clean those handles when they get stuff stuck in those openings. Maybe you're a super-neat cook and the only one who uses your kitchen. In my kitchen, I'd be cleaning them way too frequently for that particular style to work. One woman's opinion. :)

Crcollins1_gw...you know, I was a bit worried about that at first, but surprisingly, I haven't had any issues in the over 8 years since we remodeled our Kitchen - and that included the pre-teen through teenage years - it did not include very young children, so I cannot speak to how they would hold up with young children. I think it helps a lot that my counters have a deep enough overhang to completely cover the knobs and pulls.

Good point. Hadn't thought of that. But I think we're willing to put up with the pain to get the look.

I've read that anything opening straight (drawers) get a pull/handle while anything opening with a swing/angle gets a knob due to the way the human hands work when opening straight versus swing.

With a few exceptions, we used knobs on all the doors and pulls on all the drawers. I loved the knobs and the hardware was a little pricey, so using the knobs helped keep the cost down a bit. The pulls are from a different line by the same manufacturer in the same finish. The pulls that matched the knobs did not have enough clearance to comfortably fit your hand, so they were out.

We used 3 3/4" pulls on all the standard drawers and two 6" pulls on the wide drawers. There are pulls put on vertically on the long pantry cabinets next to the fridge and a pull on the trash pull out. There are no pulls on the stationary drawer face panel below the sink. I wanted to mix things up a bit, so didn't use the same thing everywhere.

I am planning on knobs for the top drawers and handles for bottom. I have cup pulls on everything right now, and one frustration I have is nowhere to casually hang a dish towel or oven mitt while working. I'm planning on something more like this picture, but the principle may apply depending on your layout.

I prefer to put only handles on the lower cabinets because you are more apt to pull or snag a pocket with a knob than a handle. I put knobs on my uppers.

It depends so much on the finish and contrast of ones hardware. I chose to use pulls on everything as I think they keep cabinets cleaner - easy to hook one clean finger in a pull if the rest are dirty! Also, if they're a shiny finish, it is less busy. But since we all agree that hardware is "jewelry for the cabinets", each person's way of wearing jewelry is different!
