Is there something wrong with my Peanut Cactus? I water it as required but a bit of it has turned red at the base and seemed to 'fall off'.

What does..." water it as required"... mean?

What kind of soil is it potted in?

Is it getting enough direct sunlight? Looks etiolated. The tips are thin and elongated.

Happy Halloween everyone! Well, I just did this real quick. You are supposed to use starch, but the peanuts held the cheese cloth in place. Didn't want to cut it yet since I'm going to cook it for pie. This was an easy compromise. When it was inside waiting to be "wrapped", my DH was convinced that those bumps were bugs :-)

Straight potting soil, even "cactus and succulent" soil is much too water retentive to sustain a healthy plant for long. At the very least cut it 50/50 with perlite. I'd do that for both. You can keep the offsets in the same pot even if there's enough room
