Should wall sconces point up or down?
Comments (2)I'm thinking, that facing down is going to give an unflattering effect as far as casting facial shadows and harshness. I'm basing that theory on my photography knowledge. The worst time of day to take people pictures is when the sun is high in the sky. Unless you use a fill flash, you'll have unflattering facial shadows and the direct lighting can be harsh. The "golden" hours are the first and last hour of sun. The light is more diffused/softer. With the fixture pointing up, seems like the lighting would be softer and diffused AND you won't be seeing a "nekkid" light bulb :) Monica...See MoreRecessed in-wall sconce

Comments (3)Another issue - sconces don't give off great light for makeup application. I would suggest a small recessed light over each sink as well or some additional lighting for makeup (a wall mounted lighted makeup mirror, etc.)...See MoreSconce Lighting around surface-mounted medicine cabinet (DEPTH Q)
Comments (5)I came here looking for similar information. I have 57-in width and a 36 wide medicine cabinet that cannot be flush installed. That leaves 21", or 10.5" on each side for these petite shaded sconces. Since the medicine cabinet definitely cannot be recessed, I'm trying to figure out if the sconces are going to look crowded next to the depth of the medicine cabinet. The medicine cabinet has its own lighting, so I'm not worried about that. The sconces will be room lighting if someone isn't doing detail work at the mirror. I guess I'm going to have to prop everything up and see if I can figure this out. I'm surprised there aren't guidelines or articles out there on this situation....See Moremrspete
