mystery cane berry plant ID help?
Comments (5)If you have a shady spot where nothing else will grow, I'd suggest moving rather than discarding the wineberry. I think they're quite delicious, and they're incredibly easy to grow. I planted mine a couple of years ago on the north side of my two-story house -- at most, they get an hour of early morning sun and an hour of late afternoon sun. Nonetheless, they've grown and spread prolifically (they'll tip root if you let them), and are producing a very large crop this spring. For me, they're the ideal worry free fruiting plant -- no insect or disease problems to speak of, birds don't seem to bother them so I don't have to put up netting, they require very little sun to thrive, and they're reasonably drought tolerant once established....See MoreMystery flowering succulent -- ID help please?
Comments (2)Wow, GREAT call, pirate girl! Yes, I'm confident you're right that it's Anacampseros. You're also correct that it needs more light -- I had to go out of town for a couple of weeks, so I put all my pots into the shade so they wouldn't fry on my hot California balcony. The flowers look more like the variety "rufescens" now that I know to search among Anacampseros. It has at least 10 buds on it at the mo, so I'll post another pic when one opens. Thank you for your prompt and insightful answer!...See MoreMystery flower in florist arrangement
Comments (20)The second part of the photo problem is my computer illiteracy -- I don't know how to insert a photo. I'm from the 'olde dayes' of typewriters, liquid daub-on typo correction fluid, and carbon paper. *blush* I don't think the flowers were from the bank, because only one lady had them. But I have to go to the P.O. tomorrow, and the bank is on the way, so maybe I will just have to stop and ask her, and then call the florist. After all the looking I've been doing at 'bell-like' flowers, I'm beginning to think that I don't remember it correctly....See MoreTwo Rogue Valley Mystery roses to ID
Comments (20)Well, as a little update, I think I figured out what my NOT 'Mme Platz' actually is. The blooms opened white, and looked a lot like those on the baby 'Mme Hardy' I got for the cemetery. But the rest of the plant was totally different. I checked alphabetically, and I'm almost certain that what I got is 'Mme Plantier'. And that's a good thing, because I was considering it for the cemetery, anyway, but didn't order it. So one less for me, one more for them. I'm not contacting RVR about a replacement, since the error is something I'd have wanted, anyway. On a related note, the second error from RVR arrived with the tag 'Duchesse de Rohan', but the plant looked a bit odd, being rather stiffly upright and showing China-influenced-but-still-OGR foliage. Then it sent forth flower buds, which began a deep dark purple-tinged red, opening "old rose red". Looking through the alphabetical list again, I think it's 'Duchesse d'Ossuna', which was another I was eyeing but didn't actually order. So, again, since the error turned out in my favor, I'm keeping it, and will re-order the other eventually without mentioning the mix-up. :-) ~Christopher...See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
