Can anyone help with old Moen Shower?

A friend of mine is in a pinch and is really hoping there is a easy way to make this work. He came home to the water in his tub running, shut off the water supply and took things apart and this is what he found.

Moen Moentrol important in the shower or not?
Comments (10)I chose the Kingsley in brushed nickel. I have no idea what's causing the problem at this point. I have not called Moen or contacted a plumber because we rarely use the tub/shower and so we can work around the issue. Basically, we've determined that if you pull the water into the on position while the temperature is turned to hot, turning the handle into the cold position will not produce any cold water (it will remain scalding hot). If you pull the faucet to on while in the cold position, then you can adjust the temperature while the water is on. I had a plumber install the valve (which I purchased from a local plumbing store), so I think the valve was installed correctly. I really need to call Moen and find out what might be causing this issue. I really really hope it's not something that will require replacement of the valve, as I tiled the bathroom myself and loathe the thought of tearing it out and re-doing it....See MoreMoen shower valve concerns -- poor fit
Comments (4)I know nothing about the Moen, but have you looked at the Hansgrohe Unibox? They are not outrageously priced, and they allow you to control 3 outlets from one device. I think they also have the volume and temp control in the same device - although I won't guaranty that. I got the old Hansgrohe Thermobalance valve because I wanted just one thing controlling everything - wanted to avoid a second control. Comments (4)Tiled shower stall is leaking at the bottom (or course). There are openings where the cover plate meets the tiled wall and the shower water may be entering through these crevasses. Should I be placing silicone sealer around the edge of the cover plate, or is it necessary to remove the plate and look for some kind of damaged gasket under it?
