How often do you try new recipes?
Comments (18)So often that I can't remember where I got the recipes that worked out well. I finally realized that I could save my "all-recipes" to a collection and started printing my others and putting in a folder in the kitchen. I'm still bad about taking my laptop in the kitchen and whipping something up without ever printing off the recipe. Then, when it works I can't find the recipe. Not a big deal in cooking as I can usually duplicate that but in baking bread (which I'm just learning the past couple of months) it becomes a problem. I make new recipes everyday that I'm not working and just about everytime that I cook so probably 3-7 recipes a week. Just started baking bread and love the added challenge. Cooking meals was getting boring. Bread is so much fun! Like kitchen science experiments. I even made my own starter from scratch without buying a starter culture!...See MoreHow often do you get guilted into a project?
Comments (18)Since I posted this, I have had another phone call from her - it is almost getting to the point where I get the giggles! It is not that I don't help people, I've made over 80 full size or bigger quilts and I only have one on my bed and one on the sofa - all the others have been given to others. But I hate being manipulated. The fact that I quilt does not obligate me into starting/finishing a quilt for anyone who is looking for the finished project w/o putting anything into it. She did keep saying how much work this is! Yep! And how long it was taking. Yep! She still hasn't caught on that it would take me the same amount of time and work. I only had one other time that someone really tried to take advantage. The women's leader at church thought it would be nice to give a baby quilt to every baby born in the church and to give away a quilt to one woman every year at the women's retreat. She turned to me and said the first baby quilt should go to the newest baby born the week before. I was stunned as I realized 'we' meant 'me'. I asked her who would be making the quilt, 'You.' I asked how the quilt would be from the group and different from the one I had already made and given to this mother. 'Well, we have donated fabric to you, haven't we?' NO! Then she said, 'well, you're still making the quilt to give away at retreat, right?' By then I was getting over being stunned and was moving into being indignant. I asked again, how this quilt would be from the group - would everyone be doing a block and I would just be assembling? She looked at me quite shocked and exclaimed that she did not even have a machine. So once it was clear that what she expected was for me to make the quilts and let her put her name on them, I said NO! I had a back log of projects I was working on and did not have time to do that, and it was being rather presumptuous of her to tell me what I would make. And she even said, 'well, you'd have a whole year to make one; that's enough time.' I think that is when my 'No' was enabled! (I even gave her an older, but in good-working-order Kenmore machine.)...See MoreHow often do you start a new project?
Comments (12)I was trying to ignore this thread. I was so embarrassed. I didn't want to admit it, but My name is Tree and I am a mosaic addict. I have 6-8 projects always in the various stages. I find something to experiment with and do that until the next experimentation idea comes along. (usually inspired by this forum.) I spend at least an hour a day checking up on the new ideas on this forum. I stopped getting my nails done because it was a waste when I had grout under them all the time. I quit coloring my hair so I could use the money to buy tesserae. I have gone all day without changing out of my pajamas. Most of my clothes have silicone on them. My kids have learned to make their own peanut butter cracker snacks because mommie is too busy gluing tesserae to substrate. I have spent as much as $300 in one day on mosaic stuff. When a toy breaks, I wonder if I can use it in some way in my artwork. I have often been afflicted with "grout mouth." And now, I think DH is catching it. He now brings me things he thinks I might like to use. He is slowing learning not to throw anything away unless he asks me if I can use it first. My son is also diseased, he has done his own mosaic projects and he also brings me stuff to see if I can use. And poor little DD, she is completely enamored with "colors" or glass and glass globs. My kids know what the word "tesserae" means. Yes, I am a mosaic addict and boy am I enjoying it!! I feel better getting that off my chest. Now I am off to experiment with crash glass......See MoreDo you get new posters here often?
