Omg will these terrible weather disasters ever end. All over the country people are having their lives devastated. I feel so bad for them. They have a long journey ahead.

And we'd love to have just a shower in our severe drought.

I feel for them. I know Raven here has had to deal with it. Driving around, I've seen several homes and businesses affected. There have been some country restaurants and places that we've had on our to do list to visit. They are permanently closed.

I was talking to my neighbor the other day. She and her husband are from the Baton Rouge area of Louisiana. Someone had posted that video of a guy rescuing a woman and a dog out of a red car on another thread. My neighbor said that car was inside the entrance of her old neighborhood. Her old house in that neighborhood has flooded for the first time. Her children's dad apparently has a flooded house also. Her husband has a few relatives dealing with the water also.

If I understood last nights news, Indiana also got hit with flash flooding and more tornadoes. All due to a slow moving southern air mass.

I feel so bad for these people, I know what they are going through, even though it was 3 feet confined to my basement.

That is awful. On Wednesday we had 2 tornadoes touch down in Windsor not far from where I live and in the nearby town of Lasalle. Environment Canada put the warning out 30 minutes after the event. Quite a few factories in the industrial park suffered major damage, 15 homes were damaged on one Windsor street and a street in Lasalle. Lucky there were no deaths just minor injuries. Last tornado we had in Windsor was 40 years ago that killed 7 people. There was debris from the tornado on most of the streets east of me in my neighbourhood and on Peche Island. We are all a little freaked out and with the bad storms we have had the last few days everyone has been watching the sky since we can't rely on EC. Their excuse is they didn't want to cry wolf.

There are no areas that are completely immune from natural phenomenon of one kind or another. Parts of the Midwest and East may have tornadoes, violent storms, heavy snow. Coastal areas may have hurricanes, Nor'easters or other storms. Deserts may have flash floods. The West Coast has earthquakes.

Low lying areas and places adjacent to rivers will flood, the areas are well identified. These events are heartbreaking and involve tragic loss of life and property. But they do happen with some regularity.

The pictures I posted were about 4 blocks from where I grew up. There aren't any rivers or even creeks nearby. That location is just a low spot as compared to the surrounding area.

The first image above shows a street sign, Scenic Ave. It is a short street that leads to a back entrance of the cemetery where my parents are buried.

I live in Cincinnati and my neighborhood only got 2" of rain and I only had a small amount in my basement. Norwood and St. Bernard got 5" of rain in 2 hours!!! Bob is right that the flooding did not come from any river or creek. It just came down the streets and the sewers could not handle that much rain. Bob, remember the Norwood Lateral? I saw a picture of a guy trying to drive down it and the water was up to his windows!!! Unheard of. Hyde Park also was hit hard with sewer backup. What a mess.

We lived in St. Bernard, and my father worked on the other side of Norwood, so the Norwood Lateral was a frequent route.

Where we live now we had minor flooding from a heavy rain in one room due to a detached downspout just outside that room. Just that was something of an ordeal to fix, enough to make me really feel for those like RavenCajun or those in some of the above pictures who have a whole house of flooding damage.
