Jay, I had that kind of windburn problems with my plants while they were still hardening off. I'd have them out for their part-day of hardening off and would leave to go to a fire, and would come back hours later to wind-burnt tips with blackened foliage. Most of mine came back just fine from the windburning, but I lost a few of the smaller, weaker ones at that time. Had I been home, of course, I would have brought them inside when the wind kicked up, but I wasn't, so I couldn't. The wind here today is pretty rowdy--gusting often to the lower to mid-20s and may go into the 30s this afternoon. Tt is very warm (and so humid!), so I've been trying to plant some more tomato plants. I feel like if I can't get them in the ground soon, then there's no point. It will heat up quickly here as June approaches. It is still very wet, but who knows when it will finally dry out. I can't plant beans yet--they would just rot in the ground, but maybe by next week. Our back yard's low spots only have about 2" of standing water in them now, so I am hopeful today's heat, wind and sun will help dry that up. The part of my garden that is planted looks pretty good, but that's mainly the raised beds. The grade-level plants are still struggling, but not dying, so I am hoping for the best there. I think that by this time next week, I should be able to plant 100% of the fenced-in garden. Maybe then I can focus on the flower and shrub beds a bit more. On a more positive note, the trees, shrubs, vines, perennials and lawn look luscious and green so they've all benefitted from the heavy rainfall. And, on a more negative note, downstream flooding below Lake Texoma has caused the Corps of Engineers to keep the lake's floodgates closed, which means areas on our side of the lake (the upstream side) are suffering. Sometimes I think it is hard for people on the upstream side of the lake to remember that the lake was built specifically to help control downstream flooding. Dawn

Dawn, Ok...here's my flood experience, first I'll tell you we laugh about this now but clearly didn't at the time, and we definitely didn't tell anybody about it for a long time as we felt like the biggest fools for doing such a stupid thing. It was 2004 or 2005 and we had a bad storm, so me and mike went driving around afterward to check out the town as we had a huge rainfall, not sure how much. I don't remember seeing quite that much water around town before. The water was coming to the point it was nearly coming on to the road from under the little bridge in town. A couple of streets you didn't dare tuen onto because it looked to deep. Then we made the brilliant decision to drive the outskirts of town and check out the bridge out there. We rounded the corner by my moms house that grew up in and came to water. Mike looked at me said what do you think? I said I can't imagine that it would be very deep. I had walked and jogged down that road since I was a teenager. So we proceeded forward. (big sigh)...oh, the things fail to notice... I never noticed before how much lower the road was compared to the land on one side. Before we had time to stop it was too late, the water was way too high and I was screaming go back and mike said we can't the engine will stall if I stop. We went along with the water probably half way up the pickup for what would be several blocks...then it rose to the hood of the pick up when we got to the bridge.....then it started coming over the hood about the time we were next to the sewer pond , and I'm not exaggerating. I don't swim and was frigging hysterical at that point. The water was maybe an inch or 2 below my window and headlights under water so you couldn't see much. We did see a lot if debris though lawnchairs and various debris washed from peoples yards. At one point I looked over and saw a hot water heater bobbing along outside my window and I was so traumatized that I forgot about that until mike said something about it about a month later. All I could think about was we were going to be pushed off into the sewer pond and would be fished out the next day, and we would be examples for centuries to come. We drove along in that depth of water for probably the length of a couple of blocks and drove out to dry road right after and stopped for a second in disbelief that engine never stalled then headed back to town, both suffering from post traumatic stress neither one of noticed the dragging noise behind us. We got to main street and a kid flashed us over and said hey your dragging your waterhose behind you. Mike said Oh thanks...hmm don't know how that got there and got and threw it in the back of the pickup. It was obviously some of the debris that got d

We had to look long and hard to find a place in OK where we could live as if we were in the center of a doughnut----a dry doughnut, where the hole gets no rain while the rest of the doughnut gets rain, flash floods, etc. (grin) I bet we couldn't find another location like this one if we tried. You'd think we were deliberately trying to find a place that the rain seems to mysteriously miss time after time. This time, though, it was just a matter of timing----the rain just took its own sweet time to make it to us. It gets old to sit and watch the numbers grow on the rainfall map for everywhere else. I just quit watching after a while because if you think about it for too long, it is depressing. Yesterday I watched it rain to our north, west, and south....... So, overnight it must have started raining here. Then, it drizzled for hours today. Hours and hours and hours. Slow, steady, at times barely-discernible raindrops. The nice thing was that the clouds and rain-cooled air kept our temperatures down today. I doubt we made it out of the 70s, and if we did, it wasn't for long. So, I watched the radar-indicated rainfall maps on my computer inside the house and wasn't impressed. It showed about 0.3" for us after the rain finally ended. After the rain stopped, I stepped outside and we had gigantic puddles everywhere, so I knew the mere 0,30" was incorrect. I splashed my way through the mud and the muck and the puddles to the back garden to check the rain gauge. From the size of the puddles, I knew we had received at least an inch, no matter what the mesonet's radar-indicated rainfall map said. Well, we got right at 1.3" and later in the day I noticed lots of big puddles in town too, so they got about as much as we did. Hooray! We needed rain so desperately. The ground was cracking in the back yard and I was going to have to water heavily to stop the cracks from advancing. Hopefully the rain just did that for me. Unfortunately, y'all know the drill.......on the days we're going to be in the 90s this week as we await the arrival of the next cold front, I bet we will have some awfully high heat index numbers, thanks to all the rain that fell today. Still, I'd rather have rain than not have it. We also have a great chance of rain later in the week, with at least a 50% chance on one day.

That is awful. On Wednesday we had 2 tornadoes touch down in Windsor not far from where I live and in the nearby town of Lasalle. Environment Canada put the warning out 30 minutes after the event. Quite a few factories in the industrial park suffered major damage, 15 homes were damaged on one Windsor street and a street in Lasalle. Lucky there were no deaths just minor injuries. Last tornado we had in Windsor was 40 years ago that killed 7 people. There was debris from the tornado on most of the streets east of me in my neighbourhood and on Peche Island. We are all a little freaked out and with the bad storms we have had the last few days everyone has been watching the sky since we can't rely on EC. Their excuse is they didn't want to cry wolf.
