Need help for my orange tree, please

my orange tree is getting worse day to day, It started about 2 years ago and I tried different ways to fix that like giving fertilizer, better soil, less and more water, even I showed leaves to specialist in Homedepot and got some disease and pest killer , but non of them helped so far. The tree is in my backyard in Hayward. It's a normal soil and mix with sand that I added some pot soil around the tree. I don't remember the name of the fertilizer and pest killer that I used. I water the tree once in a week but a lot.

Could anyone help me to find a way to rescue my beautiful orange tree, please? Thanks

Test is usually free. Besides your tree, they will come kill it if you test positive.

but be aware if it is positive then the tree is a goner anyway. There is a 0.00% chance it will recover.

If you have used citrus fertilizer according to the direction and it is still like that after 2 years, you may have HLB. You may want to have the county ag inspector test it.

Thanks for your comment, what is HLB ? How I could have an inspector? How much would cost me to have that test?

Well you have certainly over watered it, stressed it and possibly scorched it when it was stressed. Short of doing a deep root moisture test you have to guess when its ok to return to regular watering. Once you feel it is safe to give it water again I would recommend fertilizing it with a moderate to high Nitrogen fertilizer, something that is 2-1-1 ratio, and has some trace nutrients too. Giving it a bit of shade might also not be a bad idea since it is clearly in a healing stage. Which also means you should keep a close eye on disease and insects since its more susceptible to it in this state. Good luck, keep us posted.

With the size hole you made and the soil you filled it with, what you have done is created a "clay pot" the size of that hole; but a "pot" that has no drainage. Your roots will simply fill up the new "pot" and then stop growing; the stark difference between the mix in the hole and the surrounding clay in terms of pH, density, etc. will never encourage the roots to grow into the clay. If it were mine, I would dig it up, make a hole at least 2 feet deep and two feet wider than the dripline of the tree. Backfill that with a mix of your soil amendment with the native clay (1/3 amendment and 2/3 clay); that will give you a better shot at success. I would certainly do the drain test described above; and if the drainage is poor or non-existent, you might have to make the hole significantly larger.

Take your question to the Citrus Forum, but with more information.....your location, is the tree container grown, what's the soil/potting mix like, your fertilization and watering practices. I doubt that there are any real experts in Home Depot, sorry. But you will find some knowledgeable folks in the Citrus Forum.

Agree it looks like sapsucker damage. I haven't seen any sapsucker damage on my citrus trees but they have sure done a number on a Japanese plum (loquat) I have. I welcome the true woodpeckers in my yard but the sapsucker is not welcome here!

HLB, also called citrus greening, is a bacterial infection. It is causing havoc in the citrus industry.

It's an inspector from your county's Agricultural Commission. They'll check for free.

It is very unlikely that you have HLB if you live in Hayward, California. HLB has been found around Los Angeles but hasn't been found anywhere near the bay area. That being said, it still is probably a good idea to ensure it is not infected with HLB. We don't exactly know the real distribution of HLB in California. If it were to be found in Hayward that would be a HUGE deal. That being said, it is MUCH more likely to be due to something else such as over or under watering or a nutrient deficiency.
