I like reading an actual book, newspaper, too. I do read the paper on line sometimes, but don't enjoy it.

I still like to get newspapers, but they are narrower than they used to be.

I do both, but don't find either satisfactory for our local paper. Our paper went from 7, to 6, to 3 days and week and then back to 4. I never know any more if its a day I'm getting a paper or not ;0) The newspaper website is sketchy and contains only a portion of the paper pages. DH picks up copies of Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia papers a few times a week - he's a paper reader, front to back page all the way through and does not read them online. Coffee and his papers (plural)....it's been that way for years. If I do want to read one, I almost have to get to it first or find them folded, creased, pages out of order, more effort on my part if he's had his hands on them.

Much of my news these days comes from TV station websites, or CNN.

I tried electronic books but went back to paper only, although these days I spend lots of time with audiobooks to entertain me on my walks. I definitely like to get my news from newspapers even though many times I am re-reading articles I have already seen online!

I read paper back and hard cover books, but I read the newspaper on line. We get the Washington Post on Sundays and that makes us eligible to read it on line for free during the week. The on line version includes the comments, and I love to read the comments, sometimes adding my own observations.

When we moved a year ago, I gave up my beloved hard copy newspaper. I signed up for a month free of our new city's digital paper -- and loved it! I feel so free not having to get rid of a stack of newspapers every couple weeks. And no more bulky paper adds! I bookmarked the few stores I actually do want to see, and check them weekly. I like that my money still supports the newspaper reporters and all, while saving trees. If you can I highly recommend giving digital newspaper a try.

I get only one magazine and really should see if it has a digital-only option. It's great not having tons of paper to store.

I stopped reading the newspaper years ago, but the last time I read a newspaper it was the digital version.

I like ebooks and real books, I read about half and half.

I Iook forward to the daily newspaper that is delivered to my newspaper box at the end of my driveway. A highlight of every day. I want to hold my reading material in my hand and feel/smell the paper as I turn the pages.

All digital for me because it's free online.

There's so much digital to read which is fascinating, anything at your fingertips when you need it, but I still prefer paper. They have been studying how people process digital versus hard copy and are finding comprehension and memory is better with paper.

I find newspapers so outdated. Reading news online is up to date. News sites such as their own, or on Facebook posts the news as it happens to make it very current. We carry the newspaper at work and while the price hasn't really changed much in years, there is nothing to the newspaper anymore. It's so thin with very little news in it, just advertising.

Gotta have my newspaper. Comics, crosswords and smaller items that one might not find online. And, there is the advertising! The ads for food on sale and other ads I read.

Tampa Bay Times does good things, having won several Pulitzer Prizes. Lead story today is about a family whose young son had cancer and it revealed all the things that a family like had to go through. About half the front page with photos and 2.5 pages inside with more photos and a sidebar about other things related to the story.

We have a library in our 55+ community that has hundreds of book, hard cover and soft cover. I go every Saturday morning and get my three for the week. On a cruise, I check out the extensive libraries that most ships have, but I also take an old Kindle.

I subscribe to 7 magazines and read them cover to cover, generally the day that they arrive.

I guess I am getting old for doing all of those things.

Reading a newspaper is hard for me because of the severe Arthritis in my shoulders. The newer, narrower pages make it a little easier, but not much. So I get the news from TV and online. I have an app, 'Out of Milk', on my phone that will bring up all the grocery specials in the area. Don't know if it would check out sales in other stores or not. It's also great for grocery lists and keeping record of what's in your pantry, refrigerator and freezer. But that's another thread topic.

So, online (or TV) for newspapers and magazines. But definitely the 'real thing' for books! ! I tried digital, thought it looked like something I would enjoy. Wrong! ! ! I want real, actual, hold-in-my books! ! !

Hard copy for me too. And I also have access to the digital version online with my hard copy subscription. It's good for those days when the paper is way late on account of snow storms or a driver forgets me on his/her route or has car trouble. Only takes a phone call to right it, but mostly I get anxious to read and go online. The next day I may get two papers, one is the previously missed issue. Yeah, I agree about the crosswords - can't do those online. :(

I love the morning paper, but often it hasn't been delivered when I'm up early. So I start out on the ipad, go get the paper itself when I hear it PLOP on the driveway. As for books, I read both kindle and actual books. Magazines, I only like The Week, paper copy comes in the mail.

Newspaper online for me. The paper is awful here and the print quality has not only gone down but so have my eyes.

DH drives down and gets the Sunday paper from a street side vendor each week. We say it's for the ads but it's really just to support the sweet lady that sells them. She has been at that spot for years and makes trinkets on the side.

Hard copy newspapers and books. We only subscribe to one magazine, a weekly; read the hard copy, but could download it too.

I rely on the newspaper to give me the whole story -- not a 20-second 'sound bite' on TV or radio. Our paper delivery man has the paper on our doorstep by 6 a.m. (DH will go to the online version for sports stories that don't make the early edition.)

I find tablets awkward to hold, and I can't easily 'go back' as I can in a physical book. I know I must learn to do apps on a smart phone instead of clipping paper coupons.

Digital all the way. 3 local newspapers, WSJ, and NYTimes, every day. Anything else is "occasional/if I have extra time".

I enjoy the paper copy since I can visually scan it quickly to see what I want to read. I prefer hard copy magazines as well. I have gotten used to digital books though.

I love the actual book, do not want or have electronic stuff to do it and the books are way nicer for me. Newspapers don't read them, will glance at front page when go to grocery store and they are right there.

That would be worst day if libraries closed down and also bookstores.

They are everything to me, to lose books would do me in.

Newspapers, books and even all the coupon inserts. Paper. Ink. All the way. In the winter in FL its easy because its all (2 newspapers - the local and the WSJ) delivered to our condo door every morning at 5:00 a.m. Here in the North Country in the summer, we go to the store (8 mile round trip) to buy them every day. Worth every penny and every second of our time.

Okay, yes, I do read a lot (everything) on-line too. But I am of "that" generation that wants to hold that newspaper in my hand. And so is DH, even older than me.

Love reading books on my Kindle, will get the news online, but I still love newspapers and definitely don't like reading digital magazines.

I'm a lifelong newspaper reader. These days, it's the local morning paper in hard copy (a shadow of its former self but better than nothing) and the NY Times in digital form.

The Times is also a shadow of its former self but it remains the most comprehensive newspaper available, in my view. The local content it has doesn't interest me so I can get through broader news and features pretty quickly.

Books I do exclusively in audio form so that I can do other things at the same time - driving, exercising, walking. I don't have the patience to sit and read a book for long enough to make any progress.

I never read a digital book but I read one or two real books a week. We just signed up for another year of our paper. I really don't like it but we've subscribed since the 70's when it was daily. Now we just get the Sunday paper. I know all the news before it comes but I want the flyers, coupons ,and other local stuff I might miss. The paper is a shadow of it's former self.

We still have the daily paper delivered. Hubby loves the paper. I read it online. As far as book, I get them at rummage sales. Usually a dollar a bag or between 10 cents to a quarter for hardbacks. I stock up so I have something to read all winter.

I prefer paper books, but do have some digital ones on my Kindle ap. I read newspapers online -- I have asthma and the paper version makes me wheeze. Not sure if it's the print or the paper.

At our house, we subscribe to a daily newspaper including a Sunday issue. Its the only place we can get decent TV listings for the weel for our local stations. TV guide has turned to junk and is total useless in regard to our local stations.

I do the daily Soducu and my other half does the crossword puzzle. However, our paper's organization is having difficulties. Last month, Gannet Publications completed buying the paper and this month, it has been converting to the new newsprint size (narrower pages).

Print media has taken a hit all over the country. Quadgraphics, one of the largest printers, is headquartered in our little town. It does not do books; It does not do newspapers: It prints everything else and has managed to stay alive. Two years ago, its business was down, bur now is stable. It prints magazines, catalogs, advertising sheets, and develops and sells high speed color printing presses. Its amazing to see their press accelerate back up to about 2000 ft per minute after changing a roll of paper. They do not stop the press to change a roll of paper, just slow it own to about half speed. I've watched the process. The change-over happens so fast that it can not be seen. One hears a BANG, the new roll has been pasted to the end of paper strip in the press, and the motors begin to accelerate back to full speed.

I thought that magazine printing would be high tech also. Well, it is processor controlled, but the final makeup of the magazine is very simple. As sections are printed (about 10 double width pages), a group of pages are folded in half and laid on a clothes-line! This wire line is about 3 ft off the floor and each section is laid on top of each other by automatic equipment until the magazine is complete. The magazine is manually lifted off the wire and taken to a finishing station where it is stapled, labeled, and trimmed.
