When do subs get paid?
Comments (9)I've been a G.C. for over 20 years and have yet to receive a "kick back" on installed products, nor do I think it is as widespread as comments in this forum would lead people to believe. Then again maybe I'm the naive one. Where I build (Ohio) standard payment terms are for invoices to be paid 30 days after receipt by the contractor. The better builders pay sooner / more often, such as twice a month / every 2 weeks. Builders quite often operate by receiving 4-5 spaced draws from a bank for the construction of a home. The draws are based upon the percentage of work that has been completed. Paying 50 percent upfront for a relatively large dollar item such as cabinets has the effect of squeezing a builder's cash flow schedule. Ditto for paying the final 50 percent upon delivery. It's as simple as that in my view....See MoreHow much should I ask for my Sub-Zero's?
Comments (11)You may have to pay to get them hauled off. They use the old refrigerant that is no longer manufactured, and SEVERELY regulated by the EPA. (So it would need retrofitting to the new refrigerant with new $$ parts if you had to do any repair to the sealed system.) Last I checked, it was over $300 per pound if you had to buy R30 for a recharge, and special certified equipment is needed to remove it from the fridge in order to legally dispose of it. City refuse departments won't haul any refrigerator off if you sit it to the curb, and they'll haul off anything around here--- but tires and fridges. Anyone who even thought about buying them would want them for free (and would need a refrigeration license to even tinker with them) if they knew all of that, and I'd expect most people would internet research a Craig's list posting first....See MoreHow much should I ask for my SubZero's?
Comments (5)I agree with Malhgold, particularly the part about transporting them. I had a hard enough time selling a file cabinet on Craig's List because no one had a means of moving a file cabinet, much less two 36" SZ's. Also, I just checked my local Craig's List and there were a bunch of Subzero's for sale, all fairly current models, so your SZ's would be competing on Craig's List with the ones people are selling that are newer. You'll probably get more via a tax deduction if you donate them than you will trying to sell them on Craig's List. But, since Craig's List is free, give it a try, and see what responses you get. To set a price--perhaps ask yourself what YOU'd pay for them if you saw them advertised....See MoreContractor/painter asking for a $1,500 non-refundable deposit.
Comments (6)I don't think you are at the deposit point. We are close to the finish line on a full reno that included removing a wall, demoing the entire kitchen, moving utilities, changing an exterior door to a window, etc. Full reno. First we got a proposal and then it was $1500 for the design fee. That was for them to make the architectural designs. If we had left them the designs would be ours to keep. Then once we decided on a design, we paid another $1500 deposit for the contract process to move forward and then upon signing the final contract with everything laid out and negotiated, we paid the rest of the deposit for them to order our cabinets and start the demo. I wouldn't pay any money yet as you are not renoing so don't need a full scale architectural design. Nail down what you will be doing through them first. Are you still planning to paint it all white?...See Morebry911
