I finally have a finished quilt to show

I have been so unproductive lately, but I had to get this quilt finished before our first great-grandchild is born next month. It's an alternate setting of Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Mountain Majesties that I reduced in size to make a child's quilt. The finished size is about 45x55. I bought three different border fabrics before I finally settled on this one, which I like more and more. The backing is teal Minky that matches the inner border. This was the first quilt with Minky backing that I have done with FMQ on my Tiara. It's heavy, but it worked really well. I had no trouble with stretching (which I had read horror stories about), but I think that's because I glue basted. Nothing moves with glue basting.

Here's the proud great-grandfather with his first great-grandson. The new mom loves the quilt. I'm so happy.

Very nice! I love the "mountains" done this way. Great color choices and I love, love, the dotty border fabric!

Kate--The trick is in prepping the motifs with starched edges so that the fold line is nice and crisp and stable. Then sewing really closely to that edge. I love the method and since I'm going to add quilting anyway, it just didn't make sense to do the extra stitching.

It's not my design. My friend gave me the panel. She bought it to make a quilt for her son, but age caught up with her, so she gave it to me. It's a Quilt Across Texas 2011 Moda creation for a shop hop I think. The design was created by a quilt shop in Weatherford, Texas, a small town west of Ft. Worth. There was a photo still online a few months ago, but I can't find it now. The shop has been out of business for several years according to another quilt shop I called in Weatherford. So, with some help from a local quilt shop. and my online buddies, I finally got it finished. I would give credit where credit is due, but I don't know the name of the shop or the quilt designer. bkay This was the photo I found:

Great pattern - love the border print. It really draws on all of the colors. I have never tried minky, but think I might like to give it a go.

Gorgeous quilt, I really like the colour combinations and IMO it looks like you chose the border fabric first, it goes so well with the quilt colours :-)

I'm always looking for border fabric in scrap quilts that has a lot of the colors that were used in the quilt and they aren't easy to find on a white background, you did a great job.
