x-post from Windows. HELP re sealing around windows and sill pans
Comments (4)I would try to get something in there like the dental tool and loosen it. Maybe brake it up into small pieces shop vac'ing with a crevice nozzle at the same time. If that doesn't do it, at least if you could drill some holes in the foam with a long bit to make channels, that could work as well. I think sill pans are most critical with brick veneer and stucco exteriors, probably not so much with lap sidings. If your windows are flashed properly, you might be okay unless you have brick or stucco, then you definetely need a place for moisture and water to channel out over the sill pan....See MoreTile first, then trim around window? Or other way around??
Comments (4)If you don't have the actual trim yet, but now how wide it will be, you can put up temporary strips (grounds) and tile to them. Then they can be removed when the real trim goes in. This is preferred with hardwood, so it doesn't get spoilt by the clumsy tile man (sorry Bill!) Grout and thinset stains oak and cherry. Casey...See Morespace around windows - where to start cabinets
Comments (8)I think it totally depends upon what trim you are using and the visual balance. If you had 4" trim, then having 1"-2" of wall would look squeezed. So you should figure out what your trim is going to look like. I have seen really gorgeous trim on this website and some of it looks like 4"-5" and it's beautiful! But it does have to blend with the rest of your house LOL, so do think about that! I think the eye naturally wants at least 3" surrounding a widnow just to give it "weight" and look like you didn't "oopsy too tight". While you might be tempted to squeeze out that extra inch and give it to the cabs, you should make sure you don't cheat the walls too. Good for you for thinking about this! I have heard some very bad horror stories about trim and cabs because they forgot to make room!...See MoreWhat to do with space between window casing and upper cabinets
Comments (4)I prefer a bit of breathing room between cabs and window/door casings so wouldn't re-do to push cabs to your casings. I have situation around my corner pantry casing that caused me to pause. Because of some framing issues, the exposed wall around the casing is small and not symmetrical on both sides. Instead of narrow, assymetrical strips of wall paint used elsewhere in the space, I painted them the trim color (also the cab color) so it all blends in together. In your case, I would paint with your wall color....See More- 7 years ago
