Maybe something eating the roots, hard to tell without digging it up but no other rose in the bed is having issues. Same with water, others are thriving in the same bed. Thanks.

Is this rose own root or grafted? From the photo it appears grafted. Do you know what it is grafted on? It is possible that the graft is bad and not able to take up water or nutrition.

How long ago was it planted? If it is an established plant, I would suspect gopher or vole damage. Pull back the mulch to expose as much soil as you can and check for tunnels.

If newly planted, grab onto a large cane and see if the rose rocks back and forth. If it moves, it could be the roots have been eaten or it could be air pockets left when it was planted. Another test for air pockets is to let the hose flowly gently on the ground in various places around the rose; if you see bubbles, that's a sign of air pockets.

You haven't lost this rose yet; if the canes are green and it has roots left you can put it in a pot temporarily while you correct the problem.

Great suggestions, I will check it out. It came from Chamblees, own root, planted mid April in a very well prepared bed. The other roses in it are so happy. It never seemed to be strong plant, but was doing OK for a while.

Did you by chance just fertilize? It almost looks like fertilizer burn - maybe a sprayer malfunction? :) What a bummer, everything else looks great.

Hi. It looks like a root rot disease to me. It is caused by fungus in the soil and can effect roses that are preforming poorly. The overall wilting of the plant that occurs so fast that the leaves do not drop, is sign of the disease. It like stem canker that starts lower down the plant. Sometimes only part of the plants roots are effected and the stems supported by healthy roots will survive, but usually the whole plant dies. Wet conditions make the problem worse. I would replace the soil in the planting hole, before I replant. The fungi that cause this problem are commonly occurring but I would worried maybe a sick plant might lead to a buildup of the fungi in this particular spot.
