When you all say 'white' cabinets, is that WHITE?
Comments (14)It's funny how this even started. I was planning on "white" cabs, with our white appliances, no questions. It's actually what we have now - It wasn't until I started this whole project that I suddenly noticed that our cabs now look SO dirty next to the appliances. I'd never noticed that before. It's not that the cabs are old (which they are) but I can actually see that the white appliances are making the cabs look dirty. Then I went back into Great Indoors to look at their showroom, and the same showroom that I thought was beautiful before now has what I consider "dirty" looking cream cabs next to the white appliances. So I guess what I'm saying is we are all TOO picky when we start our remodel jobs and notice things that we would never, ever notice before. Our minds are so tricky, but once we've noticed these "imperfections" we can never go back - EVEN though we know that no-one would ever notice this. So in my case, I am choosing taupe colored paint for my custom made cabs and if for some reason I'm not thrilled, I will have a white glaze put on them. I don't want that, but I know it would be an alternative to losing my mind! But if ANYONE has pictures of what I have in mind, I would love to see them so I can not obssess any more on THIS subject!!...See MorePlease Share Photos of Your White/Off White Cabinets
Comments (27)Gooster: Amazing resource. Thanks for the link, and for letting me know that there were more to see on other pages because I would have missed them! It's too bad that this hasn't been active for a year. It's a great resource. Strayer and Three Graces: Thank you so much for sharing. I can't see your photo, Strayer, but Three Graces, your kitchen is lovely! I love the soft white color and the large wall of cabinets. Must be great for storage!...See MoreFound a painter I liked but now my flooring guy says he can paint
Comments (18)I decided to paint some old boards over old colors that are light and neutral with the Aura Satin paint I have here in the quart and the BM Regal Pearl Finish paint in the SW Antique White color (not for the color but for the finish/shine). I really like painting with the Pearl Finish paint and the VOC count and drying time is so much less than the old formula. I know I will not be doing the painting but it is such a nice paint and really covers well. The Aura Paint I can not paint well with and I know a painter would have to be very skilled to paint with it. I will see how I feel when both boards dry but so far my feeling is that despite wanting to go lower VOC, I may just stay with the BM Regal Paint in the Pearl Finish since it is so nice and rich on the walls without too much of a shine. The Satin is definitely shinier than the Pearl. I do not like Eggshell or flat paint so I have decided to not try out the Aura Eggshell finish. I am going to have to air out the room due to my preference for finish over VOC count. If I would like an eggshell finish, I would go with the Natura....See MoreStill Dithering on Off-White Paint for Cabinets!
Comments (29)pluckymom, I did end up using SW Almond White. It is no longer made by SW, but I called several stores in my area and one SW store had the formula still on the computer and made up a quart for me to try. Then my painter matched it with the paint he used, BM Satin Impervo. The results are stunning: I'll post a photo soon. Although the paint has clear yellowish tones, the result is a smooth, lovely ivory color. The inspiration came from Jen4268's beautiful kitchen in the "Update Pics of Cream Traditional Kitchen" thread. I also used ging's Target pulls in this thread and they are gorgeous (and relatively inexpensive!). Now I'm dithering about the next step: new countertops. As you can see, I'm going slowly, step by step. I hope this helps. I'd be happy to post the SW formula for Almond White if you want: I think it is on the can....See MoreLakelovin
