What did you use for the Aphids? Leaves turn yellow, exhibit chlorosis, for many reasons and sometimes people spray inappropriate things on plants to eliminate Aphids that cause the plants leaves to die, which yours are doing. If something was sprayed on those leaves that restricted that leafs ability to breath or photosynthesize the plant will cut off nutrient flow to that leaf and it will die.

Actually, if your water is alkaline, it may not be an easy fix at all. Most of the northeast outside of major cities gets its water from wells. The pH of well water is determined by the pH of the soil the water is sitting in. So if your water is alkaline, there is a good chance your soil is also. Rugosas do not like that. They aren't as picky as multifloras, but definitely have a strong preference for acidic soil. It is something to keep in your head going forward. When we moved here from Philadelphia, learning a new zone was nothing compared to adjusting to a much higher pH. Rifis, how much rain did you get in August? More or less than 10 inches? Edited: watering a half gallon at a time falls in the category of 'sprinkling', and isn't a good idea. If you are going to water, let the ground dry out, then put down a good supply. That would be three to five gallons for a small rose.

That looks like a pretty severe case of chlorosis. I've found that scratching in half a cup or a cup of Epsom salts helps when I've had perennials and roses with this problem. I can't remember if I've tried it on rugosa roses yet. I have a Purple Pavement I bought last year and I just love that plant!

Just chiming in with the above since I garden in the same area. I think our recent fall temps and heavy rain have cued our PDX roses to begin the slow descent into winter’s slumber. Many of mine now have foliage in a similar state. Baby Rosa pisocarpa has initiated her lovely fall color show, Gallicas are yellowing and others are just looking like they need a rest. I tried 3 times to post photos, but Houzz begs to differ. I’ll attach some later so you can catch a glimpse of my yellowing, browning foliage across town. :-) Carol Oh, houzz!
