You've washed your "pink" shirt before so the dye must have come from something else in the red load. Beware, red and darkest blues made from natural sources are never completely color fast. Also, some detergents can trigger colors to bleed. I would try a spot test on an area that won't show of an oxyclean soak and, if that fails, try the Rit product to remove dye. The oxyclean should work for the polyester, but might fade the red in the cotton.

An easy way to remove excess dye in new garments is to wash in cold and then rinse in white vinegar diluted cold water.

This would of been a good load to use a Shout Color Catcher in also.

Should have soaked it in salt water before washing. That helps set the color.

I thought of the rit dye remover but I didn't know if it would fade the red fabric? I haven't tried it on anything before.

I do have oxyclean powder so that would be easy to try.

I have always heard soak in salt water before it is washed the first time and it will set the dye. Also I would wash it by hand in some dish detergent or something mild. Some detergents do cause dyes to run more than others. I would get some Cheer powder to use on my colors, but that is just me. I wouldn't use the Rit myself, and probably not oxi either due to the red fading. Back to vinegar, I have read it helps rinse out residue so it might help with the white but I doubt it. Over time maybe the white will get better especially not going in the dryer.

First wash on something like this would best be done in a sink with a mild detergent. This way you can assess if the color will bleed. Did you say you washed it with a load of reds? Wash anything white with a load of reds and it will= pretty in pink. Like Sparky I wouldn't use Oxy on anything red, just a bad idea. Oxi can and does cause fading. Also that Rite dye remover might remove the pink but it will also remove the red.

It can be a pain when you have a white garment with red or a dark color. In the future I'd do at least a soak in the sink prior to putting it in the washer.

Thanks everyone. It's a $2 shirt so there's a real limit to how much effort I'm going to put into laudering something like that. I guess I will just experiment and see whether I can get the pink out without fading the red too badly.
