I think a raised panel cabinet door only looks good if it's a VERY high quality, true, raised panel, and few are. I don't think Shaker white cabinets will look dated. They are a classic, just as subway tile is. Now all those mosaics are another matter altogether. They'll soon be as dated as a 1970's avacado green refrigerator!

I have a 20 year old shaker Maple kitchen and there's simply no reason to update it. I would say the same with white. Shaker. Raise panel is pretty hard to pull off and look current now, let alone in a few years.

To be fair - I may be biased - I like clean straight lines and minimal adornments. I find raised panels "fussy" for a kitchen.

"conservative region" ...do you also mean traditional home..as in colonial or country type setting. Match the style of kitchen to your home's style. Raised panel cabinets are just fine...People seem to be noting counters these days . You can get a really nice basic cabinet option with the straightforward raised panel. Lots of other things like beaded edge [etc] make up the particulars of the profile...but you also don't need the extra details on a basic raised panel either. I'm making assumptions..... but for a selling that you will do in five years...I would get a good basic wood stained cabinet in the raised panel for your traditional home...using the moderate to better range at Lowes or so forth when they have a sale....if you want some enhancement for your space get some of the wall cabinets with glass......get some really nice counters. On the other hand, think about the fact that five years zips by...you could perhaps live with what you have...clean it up...add a light fixture or new hardware and save the remodel money if your house will sell without the work you will do for this. People like to do their own kitchens, bear that in mind.

Love my white raised panel doors- we put them in almost 2 years ago. I personally didn't want shaker- they are literally everywhere, and I wanted something a little more unique.

My mom just bought a renovated home and it has white raised cabinets and they look great. I agree with johnsoro25 - white shaker is everywhere. I think they look good but if I were redoing a space I would go with something different. But that's just me.

I put in raised panel doors 3 yrs ago because I like them. I had shaker and was tired of it. I don't regret my choice, I think a good raised panel looks like quality and is a classic look. White is the cabinet color of choice today, I agree it is somewhat timeless, so its a safe bet. But trends do come and go, its hard to predict what the next trend will be, or what a potential buyer will want.

This is one of the most common g heads on the forum. So much so the kitchen pros do not comment any more. You must follow the style of your house, and that will keep things from looking dated.

The people above put in shaker. Great. Some people like it and some dont. Same with raised panel. Listen to your house, and do what you like. It also sounds like you've done some homework on the market so you will be fine.

Decorating trends tend to last longer than you think they would. I'm sure that in a couple of years the whole white shaker/subway tile thing will be in style enough that it won't negatively impact the value of your house.

I don't like raised panel but dislike the true shaker style as well. I like a recessed panel with just a bit of detail, like a small trim within the frame.

We chose a raised panel door in full overlay and I LOVE them. Our look will be more transitional than traditional when finished though. I think, lol. :)

If you create a well designed kitchen where all the elements work well together and it compliments the style of the house, then it will not look dated. If instead you try and do something trendy that doesn't work with the house, then yes, it's going to look dated sooner rather than later.

Do what you love and it will always transcend trends.

Life got in the way and the kitchen is still a work in progress, but here are a few pictures of the cabinets.

we just built our home, I chose a creamy white raised panel full overlay door, panels on my dishwasher and fridge, a 48” wolf dual fuel range a honed marble backsplash with a mosaic o er range and granite countertops s- the granite was a big upgrade over the gray quartz that builder had as standard and my backsplash and mosaic were thousands more than the white subway tile that was standard... my cabinets cost me thousands more, too! We had a tough decision to pay about $10000 more for what is more traditional, high quality. But our home is more transitional. I LOVE it! we did a java Island. Everyone in our neighborhood has white recessed with subway, an occasional light gray island. I get nervous then I realize I didn’t want it to look like everyone else’s. I wanted what makes me smile.

I did raised panel cabinets and love them. I personally like raised panel more than shaker.
