Comments (9)EEEEEuck! what vendor was this, I hope you don't mind me asking Susan? I think any band sent too small shouldn't be sent unless it has enough strong, large enough viable leaves to survive the UPS journey. Why some vendors don't follow this rule of thumb is beyond me. LittleTXYard, it's a great idea to keep taking photos just in case. At first when I was reading this post I was thinking what??? bands this late in the season? until I checked the zones and I thought ahhh, now I understand. I think as long as there's enough strong leaves on the band you should be o.k. It's when you get lots of shriveling and sickliness that's when I feel you are entitled for a refund or exchange, even if the rose were to survive a few months later. Weak roses take some time to re-cover and normalize and for cold zoners this is not a good scenario. To me a rose needs to be of decent health and size to be sent out. I have seen some of Vintages' baby bands and they look fantastic. In the future, if I ever go with baby bands I'm getting Vintage bands....See MoreLimelight tree form question
Comments (1)I would prefer that it concentrate energies in developing a good root system in its first two or three years. It should speed growth once it becomes established. Water it as needed so it has soil that is moist all the time (or as best as you can). Mulch it well and do not fertilize it until Spring of 2014. Stake it in order to prevent it from toppling during windy/stormy days....See Moreneeded-help w/*custom* sofa construction questions
Comments (5)Thank you so much, ineffable and cyn. The information helps a lot and I've just communicated our choices to the sofa-builder (more than upholsterer--but he's not a manufacturer...). G*d, I hope this works out...I know what I see in my head, and I *hope* I've communicated everything effectively to him...he's definitely expert and I've seen his work...but still I won't feel comfortable until I have the 96" long, 23" seat depth, 6" wide arms, conical legs, greyish brownish hopsack-ish fabric with three cushions (practicality) and nicely tufted back and lots of welting right in my family room where I want it. There's too many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip, iykwim. and yes, cyn, I've pre-ordered...but decided we're not going to go up to Seattle to see him live. Bummed he's not bothering with Portland : ( He used to, with his earlier solo albums and Finn Bros, but not now. Do you have tickets? I read that the LA concert for "DH" sold out in 2 minutes....See Morecooktop question form vs function
Comments (24)Induction with knobs???? Is that form or function? I don't understand. I get the appeal of knobs on controls on vertical surfaces. On a horizontal, they seem like a liability - I love my wolf cooktop but the knobs are the weak link it seems to me as they are the part of the unit that become the hardest to clean. Not that I use it tons - but still. I also don't get beagles' point about form over function in a kitchen. I don't especially like to cook - sure I do use the kitchen but I'm no power user and I make do with salads and other healthy stuff (key reason I use my kitchen rather than all takeout all the time). Still, I only enter the kitchen when I have to. I don't get the point of a set-up kitchen if you don't care to use it. Waste of energy, dollars and real estate to me. Heck, if I "didn't cook", I honestly wouldn't put in a stove of any ilk. I'd put in a wine fridge and a wine cabinet, a power point for an electric kettle (for me tea) and a DW (to wash the tea cups and wine glasses) put paid to the rest of the kitchen! I don't get that advice....See Moregrammyp
