Dishwasher dilemma, Bosch Benchmark?
Comments (14)What was the reason for pushing you to a Kitchenaid? They have free installation if you buy from Best Buy right now -- not sure if that is something that applies at other stores. Their top models are good machines. I have had both -- buying Bosch again. I think every machine I've had prior to the reno in this house have been in the Whirlpool family. When we sold our last house, we had recently installed a higher end Kitchenaid and been very happy with it. It was quiet (not as quiet as the Bosch), the racks worked really well for things we were washing then and it cleaned pretty well. I was thinking I would install the same when we moved here, but the old Whirlpool Gold (very unhappy with that one) had been tiled in between the rise for floor tile in front and the drop of the edge tile on the counter above and we had to wait until we replaced the counters -- which turned out to be a bigger remodel and the current pair of Thermadors. Kitchenaid had made significant changes to the racking and the things that worked best for us were no longer there. Hence the change -- we were down to Bosch/Thermador or Miele and I could get a pair of B/T for what I would pay for one Miele. I also felt the B/T racks would load better for us. Have not had any regrets -- on brand, model or doing the pair. Even the drying that people talked about being a problem with Bosch has been the same or better than we had with every DW - a little water might remain in the rims of plastic containers or the center of concave cup or glass bottoms. But with the concealed heating element, I've never had anything melt. I'd much rather blot a few bottoms than have to replace something that melted. Don't know if KA DWs have those now, but that' a big plus. I didn't have the Kitchenaid DW long enough to give you an assessment of longevity, but I do think it got louder as it got older - like by the end of the first year. My guess is that it might have gotten noisier. And I've had bad times with service on other Kitchenaid/Whirlpool appliances. I am verifying the details before we order, but the main reason we are planning on the Benchmark 8 is the heated water. The water filtration probably isn't needed, nor is the interior light, but that might be nice. We checked out the Thermadors too, but the racks in the Bosh look like they will work better with the things we will be washing. Oh -- certain Bosh models have a $100 or $200 rebate (doesn't apply to big box store purchases) that ends July 31st and has to be submitted by Aug 15th. ope that helps....See MoreHelp me decide: Bosch 500 series dishwasher or Kitchenaid Architect II
Comments (13)Thank you for your views and suggestions. I love the third rack option also and also the Aquastop feature offered by Bosch (because our last one leaked). Kitchenaid architect series does not have these 2 options but has almost the double number of reviews compared to the Bosch and it is very highly rated also. After I posted my question here I was browsing some of the previous threads... There is a lot of discussion about the funky smell/odor and mold issue that some people are experiencing with Bosch. Have any of you who already own one experienced this issue? Thanks, N...See MoreBosch Benchmark Dishwashers?
Comments (3)Hi Jaxo, Did you get the 800 Series or the Benchmark dishwasher?? I read that the Benchmark are made in Germany vs Bosch dishwashers that are made in North Carolina. I only found this comment from www.reviewed.com "The Bosch 500 series and 800 series models clean just as well. But if you can afford the SHE89PW55N, rest assured that you’ll get what you pay for." Everyone says that the 800 series cleans as well as the Benchmark. Thanks for any info & feedback....See MoreBosch Dishwashers—100 vs 300 vs 500 vs 800 Series?
Comments (6)I have a Bosch 500 that is about 3 years old, and it's just fine on drying -- there's still water in the crevices or concave areas. No problem drying plates, glasses, pots, or pans.....Plastics dry better if there are fewer of them in the load (i.e. a lot of plastics in the load will still have some water on them, but with only a few pieces of plastic in the load, they'll be properly dry)......that's because of the way the drying cycle works, without additional heat. I actually like that better - not only is it more energy efficient, it means I can put plastics in the bottom rack, because it is no hotter than the top rack (traditionally, plastics were meant to be in the top rack only, because the heat element was in the bottom). I've also found that not opening the machine right away when it stops actually helps the plastics dry better (I suppose because there's still enough heat in the machine to dry them)....See MoreRelated Professionals
