Anyone have any indoor plants in nice looking pots? pics?
Comments (11)I just use regular craft paint in the little bottles, available at Michael's or Hobby Lobby... but most large stores carry that stuff in their tiny craft sections. I'm sure if you look, there is a specific type of paint that is made for painting on porous surfaces that might be moist at times... I'm not incredibly interested in how long the paint lasts on the pots, so it doesn't matter to me. I'm sure you could find sealer, as well. Michael's and Hobby Lobby both carry a nice selection of stencils, too. I've used pieces of a sponge to dab the paint on, using a stencil. The English Ivy pattern is one of my favorites, as are other types of vines or country type motifs. I don't have a photo of the pot set I did... I never thought to take one. Most of the pots I have currently are either plain, or they're so ratty looking, a picture wouldn't be worth taking! But I'm sure you get the ideas... You could also use a clear/transparent bathroom silicone and glue little pieces of tiles or mirror around the rim... or colored glass pieces, or whatever... a mosaic! Take a look around your local craft store... you just never know what sort of ideas might be waiting! Think "pot rim"... and let your imagination go wild!...See MoreHow can I make an ugly Shed look Nice?
Comments (7)Some time ago there was a good thread on this topic on this forum. Here is the link: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/restoration/msg032230316739.html Here is what I wrote - others wrote even more - worth checking out: RE: need ideas for shed and garden restoration Posted by: ginger_nh z4 NH (My Page) on Sat, Mar 6, 04 at 13:31 I've seen pictures is many magazines and books re decorating old garden sheds. Typically they use old chairs, apple ladders, trellises, antique bedsprings, etc as trellises for vines. Also hanging a collection of old garden or farm tools(hoes, rakes, scythes) or anything that has a nice form for visual appeal like old maple sap buckets, zinc flower buckets, hand tools, old wheels. Surrounding the shed with lots of containers with both flower and vegetable plantings. Painting the door a striking color(cobalt or periwinkle blue, lime green, red), leaving rest of shed as is. Windowbox and shutters if you have a window. Adding a weather vane or collection of metal objects along the roof line. Planting sides of shed with tall 5'-8'+ annuals like hollyhocks, sunfloweres, amaranthus, purple millet, nicotiana sylvestris, or Indian corn. And of course, putting an old seat or bench of some sort to one side of the door. If you go to the Garden Junk forum they will probably have more ideas. Or do a search there. Luck! Comments (3)Yes, I have used it for awhile now. I was looking for something cheaper than Bare Escentuals, which I like. The L'Oreal is nice, but not as good as the BE. They had a 2 for 1 introductory offer. It's not milled as finely as BE and is not as shiney. I have a nice kaubki brush that I use to apply it. I gave one jar to my sister who did not like the color of the BE on her, too yellow. The L'Oreal has a nice lighter color that is not a yellowish tint. Try it and see what you think. As I said, I did not use their brush for application....See MoreFlat screen TV over fireplace - ideas for making it look nice?
Comments (69)I needed to mount a TV above the fireplace because it was really the only place in the room it could be viewed by everyone and not in the way. The mantel of our fireplace is rather high (almost 6 feet) which would put the center of the TV well above a comfortable viewing angle. I spent months searching for a TV mount that could lower the TV to a decent height. I quickly discovered that anything motorized would cost several times what I paid for the TV. Beyond that, there were 2 options: Omnimount or Down and Out by Dynamic Mounting (http://www.dynamicmounting.com/index.php). The Omnimount is cheaper ($200-$300 vs. $400-$500) but an inferior product for my purposes. The Down and Out mount is much thinner (protrudes ~4 inches from the wall) and can lower the TV much farther (~30 inches!). I should also say that I have engineering degrees and tend to do all my own work. I thought about making my own mount but was a bit surprised at both the cost and level of difficulty. The Down and Out was fairly simple to mount on the wall and works VERY well....See MoreAnnie Deighnaugh
