Speed Queen Front Load AFN50 Washer Review - Long Post
Comments (236)You don't say whether your FP washer is a TL or FL. In my opinion and experience, having to buy ANY washer & dryer these days is a dilemma in itself. If you buy some Top Loaders you can have some control over the water level; otherwise, forget that with any and all Front Loaders. My Speed Queen FL (cost $1800) is built like a tank and works like a charm except for the water level (13.4 gal split between washing and rinsing!???). San Diego Steve will tell you that is plenty and he has even posted that he sold that model and bought the newer one which uses even less total water per wash cycle (11.xx gal I think). He and I are in complete disagreement on how 4 gal of water can rinse a set of King size sheets that remain in a wad. So FL vs TL is the first hurdle. I'm not sure how much water a SQ TL uses, but that would be my first question. My FL spins like crazy. I would have bought an FP but they are not sold anywhere in the Dallas, TX area. Maytag used to make a Centennial model which my daughter in law has and it has a deep rinse which fills the tub, but might no longer be made. Sorry not to have any more helpful information. The Chinese factor would scare me off as well with the FP. Good luck and please post your final decision with the outcome. It will be up to date and may help others....See MoreSpeed Queen Top Loader Load Size
Comments (38)Dosing phosphates correctly can be tricky, I always say if your going to use it you may as well dose correctly if you expect results LOL The easiest way to find out how much is the correct amount for you, because it will differ based on wster hardness and amount of waterr being used..is start your load of laundry, losd the clothes, add the water, but dont add the detergent..add the phosphate first whatever amount you have been using, let it agitate for a minute than feel the water..it should feel slippery, if not add more let agitate and feel again..once it feels slippery remember the amount you used....if the water isn't slippery than enough wasnt added to condition the water which means the benefits of the phosphate arnt there. I would add the same amount to your first rinse as you add to the wash cycle. Since you deal with greasy laundry I recommend a prewash to get rid of some of the muck first. Dont use phosphates in your prewash, but do add a small amount of detergent....See MoreTop loader with larger capacity than speed queen?
Comments (8)Back in 1987 I had my first SFH and my washer was a Kenmore 70 Series. I was able to wash a queen size bedspread by using the reset on the water level control and filling it with enough water to saturate it and the results were satisfactory. I had to be involved-making certain it was well washed and well rinsed, but I only washed the spread occasionally, so it was not a chore. Having had two FLs machines I am tired of the balancing issues and 70 minutes plus to do a big load because it takes it 10 minutes or more to finally spin (on medium). I read some articles recently about how to handle washing a king size comforter when the owner's washer won't accommodate it-and the recommendation was to wash it in the bathtub. I think that may be a good solution for me. I will be happy with the SQ capacity for my normal laundry. One of the reasons I am buying the analog is just for the reason of being able to use reset on the water level control and add as much water as I want for a specific load. I will try to do a big comforter-and if it does not work out I will come up with an alternative. I guess I should feel ashamed for saying I don't wash the comforter very often-but we use it for decor and not as actual bedding....See MoreNo Speed Queen Front Loaders in 2018??
Comments (14)There is no debate that Speed Queen is the best washer on the market and there is also no debate that it offers an outdated look and features. Lets be real here. This is not something that is going to be on display in your living room. It washes clothes, nothing more. My past washer had all the flashing lights and multiple setting but the truth is, 90% of the settings I never use and the more electronics something offers, the better chance of failure is there. That is just common sense. According to what I was told last year, Speed Queen's 2018 models were going to be addressing the excessive amount of water consumption their machine use as well as moving the design into more a of a current look. I have not heard if any of this came to pass. If anyone has any info, please feel free to share. Thank you....See Morerococogurl
