There is not much difference in the quality of vertical engines in the 12 to 18 hp range. If I were going to consider such a priced used 12 hp mower I would feel that the motor is cold, then try to start, If it starts on first revolution (with choke) and runs at idle (choke off) that is a plus. If the motor is hot when you get there, he has started it and you won't be able to see how / if it starts cold. I assume you cant do a compression test. If the blades engage without all kinds of noise easily that is a plus. If the deck rattles that is a minus. Does height adjustment work good.? Are blades tight? Are belts cracked? Are tires cracked? Is steering tight? Is seat ripped? Is motor greasy? I would run the mower and deck for 10 minutes. Then turn off and try to start again. Gayle0000 .. that map is beautiful! What a wonderful find for you. Allison0704 .. thank so much for listing those wonderful maps. They make me appreciate the price on this map even more. After swim practice, one of my girlfriends offered for the girls to stay at the pool with her girls ( our girls are best friends ) so I could run back. I picked up the map, the lamps and I also found a painting I liked in the 60% off room. Th guy that owns the place come down to $55 for the map, $50 for the lamps and the painting wasn't supposed to be in the marked down room, but he honored it since someone there had tagged it wrong. So I got the painting for $20! Here's the map .. it has more yellow on it than I remembered, but I still love it. There is also no orange, that's red and it reads red in real life, my camera didn't pick up the accurate color for some reason. Key : Side top : Other side top : Side bottom : The painting, didn't think it was too bad for $20: It's of a cottage .. Close up : The lamps .. I just threw this stuff up here, this is not the final resting spot for the lamps or painting :

I love a good revived thread. :-) My good deals are all from eBay this time. My desktop computer is not quite four years old, but since it gets a lot of use and we believe in "lifecycling" electronics I've been casually looking for a good deal on a somewhat high-end refurbished PC to replace it. Before I found anything, my computer quit. Just refused to turn on. I researched possible causes, and called in my expert: my son. The power supply was a common source of the problem, so I bought one on eBay for $20. Nope, that didn't do it, but we kept the replacement in the computer and held onto the old one as a spare. Next we replaced the motherboard ($70 on eBay). Yes! The computer works fine at this point, but we figured since the hard drive has been spinning all these years, why not replace it--or add another, which is what we did--rather than wait for it to fail? So I bought a 1TB SSD drive on Amazon ($100), and now have a "new computer" for under $200. Also, I've been wanting an L.L. Bean tan canvas "barn jacket" for a long time but was unwilling to pay over $100 for it. Even eBay prices on them aren't usually tempting, but this time I found one for under $20 including shipping. I love it! It really is "like new," and I look forward to wearing it when spring starts to make an appearance. All I need now are olive green "wellies" for our muddy season.

When I try some new-to-us product and we love it, I can bet it will be discontinued in a month. I 'discovered' Ghiardelli Milk Chocolate Fudge Caramel Bars when they were 'on sale' at our local grocery. We bought them regularly until...yup, discontinued! No local stores had them. Amazon had them at ridiculous prices. I thought Ghiardelli had stopped making them. But no! One day I discovered that Ghiardelli had stock and would ship free for a sizeable order. We now have 24 3.5 oz bars @ $2.90/bar -- cheaper than the first 'on sale' bars. I'm also the owner of two chemical cold packs that came with the shipment -- and have already used one on a bruise. So...not a HUGE bargain. but definitely *sweet*.
