How much dirtwork can be done for basement floor level?
Comments (6)I had a similar problem (actually the same but opposite...had to dig to bedrock because my 99% silt soil has no bearing capacity, and ended up with my basement being too deep, and had to raise it back up with gravel). I did call in a structural and geo engineer (looks after large projects in my city for things like building malls on soupy clay soils), and he determined all the granular fill, compaction and footing sizes based on that. We also, had the soil not been so rocky, had the option of installing piles as a base to help stabilize the foundation. So yes, by and large it can be done, but I would agree with the others and say you really should consult someone with a great deal of knowledge on this. (especially if like me, you wind up with the process halted by the BI when they're not familiar with the soil structure your dealing with...and your engineer is the only person who can stamp off on the structural integrity and get the process moving again...)...See MoreHow Much $ can I get for these old cabinets and travertine tops

Comments (3)Are you using a level to determine the 1/2" (out)or are you measuring off the floor. If you put a level on the top of the cabinets and both side to side and front to back are level you may just have a bad floor. Take a large framing square and check to see that the insides of the cabinets are square. If they are not, you will have problems aligning the doors and drawer fronts....See Morewhat's an acceptable level of "off"
Comments (64)thanks for checking in :) we're...creeping along. we got our new fridge panel - yippee! but we're still missing a desk area upper and a bunch of other things that are making it difficult to do things like install backsplash or under cabinet lights. electrician was here today to wire the under cab lights that can actually be installed. and work on wiring the appliances. but he didn't get as far as i would have hoped. we still have no running water on the first floor. i was promised it would happen by end of this week and now it's by end of next week. our new kitchen dining table was delivered and sitting in our family room because our front hallway is chock-full with boxes of bathroom fixtures and our fridge. i'm really, really, REALLY over living like this. really. but i'm praying it will be better in the next few weeks. we are supposedly getting all our random missing cabinets and missing pieces - there are so many - by next Tuesday keeping my fingers crossed!! anyway, thanks for asking! :)...See MoreN Su
