Harassment from New Owners
Comments (7)I am seriously appalled when I read about how other property owners function in their business dealings. I should say *some* property owners, since not all are unscrupulous. It doesn't make any sense to me, why these people are hell bent on getting in to rip out my windows, when I will be gone at the end of April anyway. But it's as if they have a burning need to weild their almighty powers, regardless of how it effects another human being. And on a human level, to these people, I am a unit number, not a real person with a real family and a child to consider. They treat everyone here like that. Before these people took over, we had a wonderful man who was in charge. He addressed us by NAME. He waved if he ever saw us coming and going when we went by the office on our way out. If we had a problem, he sent someone over to fix it pronto. He never once harassed me, left ridiculous threatening notes on everyone's doors if one person in the entire complex broke a rule, and he certainly had a life of his own and didn't care to nose into the tenant's lives. This is how a renter should be treated. I came out of my door today to find a woman sitting on the stairs with her head in her hands crying, while her children were playing around her. She was given a THIRTY DAY notice to vacate, after living at her apartment for NINE years. She says she has no where to go. She should have much longer than this by law, which is SIXTY day notice if living in the apartment over a year. These new owners will try to get away with anything even if they know it is illegal. Let me also add this, every single time the new manager comes to my door to speak with me, she can't ever look me in my eyes. She will look down at the step, look at the sides, but never in my eyes when speaking to me. I guess it's much easier to harass people when you don't have to actually look them in the eye. Sorry for my rant, but honestly, it's time for home ownership when it comes to owners treating people like they are dirt beneath their feet....See MoreAttn: Owner Builders: How much did you spend per sq ft on home?
Comments (45)Wow, am I envious! I live in the Tampa Bay area and we are hoping to come in somewhere about $110-120/ft. Average prices are between $175-300/ft. The main thing to consider is that our building codes are probably some of the strictest in the country due to the hurricanes. The home is built to withstand 130mph winds. It is built from concrete block which definitely increases our cost substantially. As we are the GC, we did hire a manager to over see the entire project (he also did the slab/block/frame). But the money we are paying him to manage is definetly worth the peace of mind! He is very reputable in our area and has many many contacts so we are able to get his pricing. In the end, his management fee will probably wash with the savings. We are also going pretty high end with everything else from windows to appliances to flooring and so forth. In the end, it will all be worth it. However, our cost to build does not include what we paid for the lot. Land is NOT abundant here and you pay for it - ALOT. Our lot had a home which we initially wanted to add on to. But after talking with our architect and engineer, the cost was more to do that (by going up a floor) than it was to demo and start over. We went that route since then we are not limited to the footprint and could then have exactly what we wanted. Our new home is 4000 sq ft living/8900 sq ft under roof incl 1500 sq ft covered lanai/3 car garage/semi-detached 4 car garage. So, with all of this, in the end we should be about $450K (not including pool). For Florida, this is not bad at all....See MoreOwner neglect: What would you do?
Comments (28)I have been in a similar situation recently.Where I live it is not the sticks and is beside a very busy road where people fly down it at 70 miles an hour sometimes. So,I do not advocate outdoor cats,as it is common to see them laying dead on the road. This cat began coming around, also in the cold.I offered it some of my cats food and it seemed like it was starving.I noticed a phone number on the collar so I decided to call it. It was these people's who live in the apartments next to mine, who said their cat had been missing and came and got him. Well, this began happening alot. The cat would show up at my place again and stay for days, and I'd have to call the owners.Kinda became a nusicance to me,but I didnt do anything. Then, the lady comes to my house and tells me her cat is missing and has been for a while. After we had about 22 inches of snow! I told her I hadnt seen him,but I'd keep an eye out.I figured anyone stupid enough to let the cat out in a snow storm, that the cat was likely dead. About two weeks after, the cat finally shows up at my place.I call the lady but tell her that if shows up again I will have no choice but to report her.Because in the county where I live,it is actually illegal for her to let him be an outside cat. Clearly if the cat is out in the rain this a form of neglect. The cat isnt sitting in front of it's owner's place,so it is trying to survive (what cat's do) by coming to your place for help. If it continues,I would take the cat.If the owners have a problem, then maybe they should be taking better care of their animal. When it shows up at your place time and again, hungry or cold or wet, what else are you supposed to do? Anyone with a good heart would do the same thing....See MoreI just got back from Buffy's owners house.....
Comments (30)I want to add one additional comment. When you ask Larry if you can keep Buffy, let him know Buffy can visit anytime he wants to see her. It's hard to say how Larry feels about the dog without knowing him. He may be very attached but not have the time or money. My guess is though, based on the matted hair, that he is not a very responsible owner. If that is the case he will be more than willing to give up the dog. If he does give you the dog I would write up adoption papers and have him sign them. Just something that says he is relinqueshing his ownership to you. You can make something up to Larry about needing proof of ownership for pet insurance. Good luck and keep us informed. Donna P.S. You can also tell Larry when Buffy comes home that she will be needing follow up vet care. If Larry thinks the vet bills will start adding up he will be more willing to give Buffy to you....See Moreeweandbee
