Spraying selective herbicide and daytime temperatures

last modified: 7 years ago

Is it OK to spray on an herbicide WHILE the temperature is below the guideline, even though the temperature will rise above the guideline later in the day (and if OK, how much of a buffer)?

I need to put on some more Turflon Ester to kill bermudagrass in my fescue here in Nor Cal, but high temps have been in the 90's. I only have a few opportunities to do it (at my rental house) in the next week before we head out of town on vacation, and I don't want to miss it since I've been battling bermuda grass for quite some time and THIS is the year it WILL die! (muh-ha-ha-ha!). I have my kids in a morning summer camp, so have a chance to do it in the morning when the temps are maybe only upper 70's/low 80's. It would probably surpass 85 (the recommended limit) within 2-3 hours after I get it done.

Will that stress my fescue? BTW, I think my fescue is pretty hearty - I had to reseed it in the spring (so like 4 months ago), but it seems to be growing strongly.
