Considering Move to Charlotte NC have questions
Comments (16)Honestly, I don't understand the Charlotte-bashing that has become such a popular hobby these days. Especially not coming from a place like Union County, which seems to be living on the reputation it had 30 years ago. Unfortunately, in 2006 it's exurbia-on-steroids. Fastest growing county in North Carolina, meaning developments are popping up faster than toadstools and the infrastructure is strained to the point of collapse. Last time I was down there (having driven no faster than 15 mph in the gridlock on Highway 16) I drove past a dead deer carcass lying at the edge of a Target Superstore under construction, in the middle of what used to be fields and forests, and that kind of summed the place up for me. Charlotte will be a good fit for you if you need culture in your life (excellent opera, symphony, ballet company, several theatres) some actual gourmet and/or ethnic food now and then (we are not talking Macaroni Grill, ok?), and the hustle and bustle of lots of different kinds of people. Best of all, the city is well-known for its beautiful gardens, and there are many gardening groups and public gardens to become involved with and learn with. You should check it out....See MoreNE Ohio and surrounding areas Plant Swap interests
Comments (24)I wanted to say a great big Thank You to Stardust !!!! The swap was a success. She did a lot a work to pull this together. The hall was great and easy to find. There were tables and chairs inside for a great lunch of all the food everyone brought. Of course, all nicely decorated! It was fun to see all the door prizes that were all wrapped. And there was a very nice silent auction of books and home decorations. Then, on to the swap. Names were chosen at random to start the rounds and everyone redeemed the tickets they were given for the plants they brought in exchange the the plants they wanted. It took many rounds to use up the tickets. We sure had lots and lots of plants. Stardust brought about 60 plants. Wow! So, everyone got to select a "bonus" plant after they ran out of tickets. So, thank you so much. This was a lot of work and turned out to be a lot of fun. Also, thank you to Stardust's long time & very good neighbor friend who helped the whole day and made the refreshments. I can see that you did a lot of planning, too. Here are the lucky guys who came home with me::::...See MoreCharlotte,NC Concrete/Gunite Pool Builder Forum
Comments (134)Im posting on this to bring this thread back to life. Lots of good information here. I just saw this post from Uniondawg and feel kind of relieved. Artisian is one of the pool builders I wanted to get a quote from. He didnt seem to want the business. We live out of state, and are building in the Charlotte area. I told him we were coming in for a few days for the sole purpose of meeting with a few pool builders and he couldnt find an hour to give me, even a month out. I felt like I was begging him to take my business. After asking about three different times on two different days and being met with, "thats family time, or Im pretty sure im booked" it was obvious to me he wasnt interested in my business. He was very nice, but strange behavior for a business man. Too many other pool builders in the area to be dealing with that. Plenty of other reputable pool builders out there that want the business....See MoreWith winter protection can handle being out in the open NE Ohio zone 5
Comments (22)Natchez Glen...I've had the Ryusen for a number of years...until we had the nasty arctic air move in for long periods. Never an issue with walnut seedlings. Glad to hear it's not the actual juglone that is an issue. Never in 24 years of living here...have we had any seedlings appear from our tree. Guess we have hungry critters out in our rural area to leave them root. Trust me...I enjoy working in the yard...and my bonsai hobby. But, I believe it pays to know what one is getting into. Since it's a large investment for trees especially. But, also since I have years back lost much landscape material not understanding juglone was an issue or that it even existed. The nursery staff is what wigged me out saying that it would be difficult with my wanting to plant in the open. Thus...my asking questions here. I wanted to stack the deck in my favor with my next selection....See MorePlant Map
