It's so hot here, that ....
Comments (46)It always amazes me what a difference humidity makes. Here in the Phoenix metro area, our humidity starts to go up in July when our "monsoons" hit, and you can really tell the difference. And it is still not that high, but it is much more uncomfortable. Still, I look forward to the rain we get with monsoons. However, they have become more unpredictable than they used to be (or they seem to be). There has been so much (mindless) building on the outskirts of town which has resulted in a heat island. Now, it seems the rains cannot make it into town as it dissipates on the edge of town due to the heat. Someone I know was in San Diego this past week and thought it was almost as uncomfortable as here due to the higher humidity. Amazing, as everyone around here tries to get over to San Diego in the summer to escape our heat....See MoreIt's so hot the daylilies are melting!
Comments (10)I'll echo Debra's comments - - first and most importantly on your new granddaughter. As for the weather just west of Augusta, GA, its been terrible. Probably by the dsame day you got 109 Augusta set a "hottest day ever recorded" at 108. I don't know how many days we've been over 100, but there have been far too many and the days it "cooled down" it was between 95 and 99! My daylilies are struggling too. Watering just does not get the job done. Friday evening, we had the first thunder storm in two months or more. What a blessing to get 2 1/2 inches of rain. Everything looked much better Saturday morning although several of my first-blooming-year seedlings are still struggling. My established beds look alot like early spring - - what I mean is only a few green leaves showing. The difference is that everything else is crispy, brown leaves. Awfully ugly! We're expecting weather between 98 and 105 again this week. WHen will it end? Larry...See MoreIt's been so hot and dry, that
Comments (24)Youth is such an uncomplicated period in our life. Too bad we never fully appreciated it. Because we knew so little it seemed life was really a challenge. I too sat with my neighbor kids in the shade and waited for the ring-a-ling of the Good Humor bicycle cart (now who is giving away age). At other times we might have been enemies but during the dog-days of summer we were friends in the shade. By 11am the power from ComEd has so deteriated in quality from load that my computer system UPS unit kicks out and doesn't restore until 9pm. It doesn't make any difference whether I have heavy loads (my AC, TVs etc.) on or not so it must be area-wide. Talk to you tonight - it's a good excuse to take a mid-day nap. Les...See MoreIts so dang hot!
Comments (3)It seems accurate, thanks for the tip! I was really just curious, for now, how it relates to the actual air temp but now that I know it's that easy I'll use that to time my fertilizer apps & get a better idea of when I should expect the bermuda to green up. I can also see myself using it to estimate crabgrass germination start & stop times for the year. In drier years, I imagine the soil would heat faster & they would pop earlier, but I have no basis for that wild guess....See MoreLynn-in-TX-Z8b- Austin Area/Hill Country
