Please tell me about the cutlery tray in your dishwasher
Comments (7)A couple large soup ladles, along with very long and large serving spoons, cutting knives and forks, and large spatulas and mixing spoons fit in our Bosch SHE68E15UC cutlery tray even with a full assortment of regular silverware. You might think the KA cutlery tray is too close to the top of the dishwasher. I thought that, too, in regard to the Bosch. But the space between the center of the tray and the inside top approaches 3". Are you sure the KA has too little room for your serving spoons, ladles, etc? The cutlery trays typically do angle closer to the top at as your approach the sides of the dishwasher. This is to give additional room for the stems of tall wine glasses which are positioned on the middle tray (which itself can be raised and lowered on either or both sides to accommodate really tall items on that tray.) One thing you'll really appreciate about the cutlery tray (on any model) is the additional space gained on the bottom tray. This extra space is great for pots and pans, or casserole dishes and covers....See MoreMiele Dishwasher and Rinse Aid
Comments (6)The salt used in the dishwasher never mixes with the water used to wash and rinse the dishes - no need to worry about that. As a matter of fact, you can use salt, very hot water and aluminum foil to clean silverware. RE: rinse aid. Well, Miele says in their manuals that you can use vinegar or citric acid in place of rinse aid - but results won't be as good as when using real rinse aid. I am currently using Electrasol/Finish Turbo Dry, which is pretty good. I actually have the dispenser set to the lowest setting, which equals about one teaspoon of rinse aid in the final rinse. There are also detergents with rinse aid substitute available but these products don't work as well as rinse aid. How about Ecover (or such) biological rinse aid? Ultimately, you could also have a Miele tech raise the final rinse temp on your dishwasher to compromise for the lack of rinse aid - if noting else works. Comments (5)LemiShine is NOT rinse aid. It's a concentrated citric acid powder intended for cleaning calcium and hard water deposits from glassware and the dishwasher interior. As weissman says, all liquid rinse aids are pretty much the same, other than one may work better under whatever may be the specific water conditions at any particular location. Too high a dose of any rinse agent can cause excess foaming during the final rinse when it's dispensed. More likely, the film is due to the detergent your SIL is using, and/or too high or too low a dose of said detergent....See Moredishwasher drying without rinse aid
Comments (2)When you are checking with different manufacturers, ask them the wattage of the heating element. That should tell you how well they will dry also.(higher watts-faster dry) Frigidaire has some models out now with a feature called Sahara Dry that is supposed to dry very well-but I don't know how well they wash. GEProfile has a new racking system called "angle dry" or something like that that lets the water run off better for better drying. I also think GE has a rather large heating element. This is just somethings I thought might help you out in your search for a machine....See MoreUser
