Just how big is this plant now? Do not pack earth around an open 'wound' otherwise you are inviting creatures to invade the plant. If the top isn't wilting, then perhaps there's hope in that enough nutrients are being channelled upwards. You may not get as large a flower though. Ianna

I don't know for sure about delphs, but a couple of weeks ago I bought a pot of Nicotiana and noticed when I got home that a branch had snapped off. I put the lone branch in some water just to see what would happen. In less than a week it had formed roots and 2 buds. Shortly afterward, it bloomed. It's now planted in a bed and doing great, so I say go for it. I've also had individual roses from a bouquet root in water, much to my surprise. Good luck. I'm just trying to give them better choices for flowers, that's why I let the broccoli bolt, they'll go after it and leave the tomato blooms alone for now. I need to plant more pentas in the garden too, and make sure it's well enough away from the tomatos to not be affected when I spray the tomatoes. Squash is another story, hard to keep the bees away from it. If I see another die-off after using the spinosad I'll probably quit growing squash, and only grow greenhouse cucumbers inside the pool cage since a few moths will still get to them, but I can keep the bees out and still spray.... At any point the moths lay their eggs in the new buds of cukes/zukes and when the worms migrate down to the leaves they are so small you can't see them until they gain some size, so you can selectively just spray the BUDS every week and try to stay away from the flowers. Yeah, Romanescos are an extremely vigorous and rigid squash. I've broken them trying to manage their growth. Depending on how long the vines, they will branch and can produce on those branches. I can't say for certain yours will produce, but if they've branched, then it's possible. It may even toss out a branch at the nearest internode back from the break and continue on like nothing happened.
