Cracked Quartz countertops!

Tim Faes

We recently had Viaterra (LG) antico pearl style quartz countertops installed by Duracite through the Home Depot. On the back right corner of the under mount sink I have a large and somewhat deep crack that starts at the sink and travels almost to the back of the slab. Duracite came out and added a penetrating sealer glue agent, but admitted that with Quartz they don't see this happen very often (as with natural stone).

The Duracite rep assured us that the crack will not spread or widen and should remain sealed. We may be able to call later this week and receive some type of compensation due to the product not meeting our or their standards.

My big question for anyone out there with experience is will the crack spread? Should we take the compensation package and be ok with what happened? Removing the slab will take a ton of time and could damage the cabinets. Any advice from anyone that has gone through this before would be most appreciated!

Tim.
