Gave pineapple fertilizer for tomato, is that ok?

I just bought some vegetable fertilizer (8-8-8). Gave my pineapples a few tablespoons as well, then realized that might be a mistake - is that okay? They were growing really well and I hope I haven't messed them up. Sandy central Florida soil. They are hopefully going to be ready to pick in a few months and I am so excited? (First garden).

Funny pineapple story.

We go to Jamaica twice a year and anyone who knows me is aware of my use of cannabis. We don't go for just that reason, but well, let's go on. On my morning walk up and back on the beach, I met a local who swore to me that he had pineapple flavored herb. He claimed that he grew it in the cored out shells of pineapples, planting the seeds in a bit of soil and growing them to maturity in the pineapple husk. His scientific explanation was that the seeds absorbed the pineapple flavor as they were growing.

Drawing on my extensive botanical knowledge, I informed him that what he was saying was simply impossible, but this did nothing to dissuade him. He sited several biblical references and even offered to take me to his grow... as long as I would buy his $20 bag of ganja. We walked for several miles up the beach and back to the resort, his price for the bag of what he called "Pineapple Kush", dropping faster and faster as we approached the resort. I finally gave him $5 for the bag and another $5 for the company on the long walk.

No. In case any of you were wondering. It didn't taste like pineapple, didn't smell like pineapple when it burned, and it wasn't worth the $5.

We had a presentation at the Tropical fruit club from a D*** grower. It is appx an 18mo cycle. To get fruit the 2nd year you need to start your tops or offsets in feb or march. Never cut the tops off just twist them off and let them dry out for a week or so. Peal back the first few layers of leaves on the bottom to expose the tiny roots. A slightly acid sandy or well draining soil no peat moss. He used cheap top soil mix in his pots. Use 12'' or larger pots Since nematodes are abundant in sandy soils found in Fl. he recommended pots only in Fl. Fertilize monthly with 20-0-0 for the first 6 months 20-0-20 second six months a foliar is best. This is assuming the typical Fl soil is high in Phosphate. If the plant is waist high appx5.5 to 6.5 lbs by weight by the time we get cold weather you should have a fruit by spring. The lower temp. is the key to when it fruits. If the plant is too large by the time you get cold weather it will never fruit. He recomended getting rid of large plants that have never fruited by the second spring. Keep water off the fruit when it is in flower and stop fertilizing. The fruit is ripe when you can easily snap the fruit off. The fruit is at its peak the moment you harvest, It will not ripen off the plant. It begins to lose sugar content right then.

to grow tomatoes upside down its better to use 5 gallon buckets. You cut a small hole in the bottom and place a sheet of newspaper or a coffee filter over it. Fill the bucket with a good potting soil, shaking occasionally so the soil will settle. lay another sheet of newspaper or coffee filter on top of the soil. cut another small hole in the bucket lid. Put the lid on and turn the bucket over. cut a small hole in newspaper or coffee filter so you can plant the tomatoe. I plant them when they are pretty small as its easier to get them in. Water daily until it get a nice size then flip the bucket over and hang it up. Preferable to a heavy clothline pole or something strong enough to hold it. You can remove the lid and plant something in the top or you can leave the lid on. Water well until the water starts running out the bottom. No staking is needed and tomatoes never lay on the ground. I am doing this method this year. I'm doing two different buckets, hanging them on the old kind of clothline pole that's like a large T. I put chicken wire loosely up the main pole and am growing cucumbers up the pole. So far everything is doing good. Happy Gardening, Gemfire

I belive that too much nitrogen can delay flowering, and for flower formation phosphate is essential and for a healty plant I would not overlook potassium. It's my first experience with moon vines but they Impressed me with their fast growth. I planted them in feb indoor and they cover now all my windows (5 of thems) So my plan is : transplant them in larger pots using well aerated soil like adding perlite to some potting mix. Mixing my soil with bone meal (2-11-0) Take them out Use all purpose (20-20-20) fert to supply Nitrogen to get an abundant and healty green foliage In late may I will flush the soil with plain water to remove Nitrogen from soil and only add plain water and some 0-0-60 diluted in water once in a while it should allow the plant to become N deficient and trigger abundant flowering. By then the bacterias in the soil should break down consistent P(bone meal) to produce huge flowers all summer Will check on leaves if they turn yellow will add 20-20-20 to control N so the plant do not turn chlorotic but it should not happens These are fun, good luck to all of you ;)

Pineapple is advertised and pictured all over the net as a bi-color. I grew it a few yrs back but didn't see the yellow/red size like I do in Mr Stripey. Still it was more productive for me than Big Rainbow but not as large. Hillbilly is another one that comes out as mostly yellow in my experience but the net pics always show lots of red. Maybe I pick them a little too soon. Both are nice plants and set lots of fruit. I only grew BR one time and didn't have any luck with it but will try it again.

Too funny Fawn! The lore (and BS) surrounding cannabis cultivation is legendary. There is an actual cultivar called that, but almost beyond a doubt, this wasn't that. If it had been, it would have been well worth the $$. Or so I've been led to believe!

Note to K S: In almost every case, when you see such and such a fertilizer as being "for" this or that plant type, it's more BS, speaking of BS!

KS, I could be mistaken, but I don't think plants can read fertilizer labels. ;D Fawn, I'm dying to know what biblical references the Jamaican guy touted, I could maybe use it as ammunition when me and DH get in a heated discussion concerning legalizing pot.

"YES" for amendment 2. If you have you have a child or anyone you love that would benefit from Medical Marijuana, please vote. If not, I encourage you, please research the benefits. I have a child that would greatly benefit for this to pass. This is one step closer for recreational use.

The Florida Right to Medical Marijuana Initiative, also known as Amendment 2, is on the November 8, 2016, ballot in Florida as an initiated constitutional amendment. A "yes" vote is a vote in favor of legalizing medical marijuana for individuals with debilitating medical conditions as determined by a licensed state physician. A vote "no" vote is a vote against the legalization of medical marijuana.

The measure would also require the Department of Health to regulate marijuana production and distribution centers and issue identification cards for patients and caregivers.[1]

For a referred amendment to win in Florida, it must win a supermajority vote of 60 percent of those voting on the question, according to Section 5 of Article XI. This change was made via Amendment 3 in 2006.

Side note: Many Jamaicans of Rastafarian persuasion use biblical verse to explain everything. Don't I know-spent some years travelling with the New Flavor reggae band, which consisted of Hawaiians, Jamaicans, and me and another white guy (although I was constantly told I look more Arab-dark skin and all!). Many an interesting hotel room convo at 3:00 AM!
