An ffo, some rebloom and clumps on Friday
Comments (18)Mantis and Julia - I think Skullduggery is only registered as having 15-16 buds. Mine, still in a pot, only has 6-8 buds per scape this year. I don't think I've ever had more than 15 buds per scape, and that was probably in the first year I had it. In the past, it's been a very reliable rebloomer. Being in a pot for several years, it has not multiplied very quickly. I have a lot - especially early bloomers - with very poor bud counts this year. We got NO rain to speak of in April, which is the opposite of what usually happens. I started watering my seedlings and the two beds by my seedling regularly in early May. The daylilies in those have much better bud counts than those I only watered a couple of times in May. Jean and Anika - Glitter Gal is a nice one. It is not diamond dusted. Where it glitters is the edge. It has a double edge - gold wire - that does glitter - and a fluffy white and gold edge with some tendrils and knobs. It can melt on a 95-degree day unless it's kept well-watered. It does fade somewhat, but still has a pleasant lavender color at the end of the day. It multiplies very quickly. Comments (29)Thanks all for the kind words concerning the seedlings. Karen, to be honest, I am not sure that Orchids for Minnie X Wolverine is quite as bright as the picture shows. I got lazy last summer and used my cell phone to take most of the pictures instead of the Nikon that really does a great job with colors. My cell phone tends to make colors a little brighter than they are. My husband's cell phone makes the color duller. Here is his picture from the same day. I think the true color is somewhere between the two pictures. (And the edge looks yellow in this picture.) Nancy...See MoreLates and Rebloomers Take Center Stage
Comments (14)Nat - I've been very pleased with Bluegrass Shadows in its first year. The edge is so much more fancy on rebloom. I will be giving the lavender seedling sibiling at least another year. Seedlings that disappoint when they first bloom often turn out to please me quite a bit the next year when I don't have specific expectations of them. I did cross the lavender seedling with a couple of my other lavender seedlings, so it may end up producing something fantastic down the line. It really likes to set pods. A good bridge plant is almost as valuable as one I would register. Julia - Allegheny Skyline has done really well here this year. It's taller than ever before (32-37 inches), but still not quite at registration height. I hope yours will put on a good show with its four fans. Debra...See MoreThree New Seedlings, Reblooms, Lates
Comments (12)Thanks everyone for the nice comments on the near white seedling. I look forward to seeing how that one does next year. Kate - The Cowgirl Spurs seedling does look promising. With our weather conditions this year, it doesn't have much of a plant under it. We'll see how it does in future years. I have around 10 seedlings from the White Tooth X Skater cross. While this one does have the largest bloom and the widest edge, it's not one of my top favorites in the group. It's hard to evaluate the seedlings this year or make selections because the lack of rain caused lower bud counts and branching. Nancy - I agree that the Last Chance for Romance flowers were lined up like can-can dancers. Wheel of Time does have a lot of colors in it. Julia - Last Chance for Romance just started blooming last week. It has 15 scapes and lots of buds, so it should be blooming for most of August. Kay - Thanks for the comments on the seedlings! Maryl - Thanks for your comments. I thought the color on Zuzu's Treasure was especially good for this time of year. Lightning Round does have a pretty edge. Debra...See MoreMaryl (Okla. Zone 7a)
