Bathroom faucet size, need help fast

I had to change our bathroom sink because it would have made the vanity drawers too small. I found a small sink that works well with the cabinet, but now I'm concerned that the faucet might be too big.

The plumber comes at the end of next week, so I'll have to make any change ASAP. I'd really appreciate any opinions either for or against. The faucets are polished nickle Newport Brass, so I'm not sure how fast I'd be able to get a replacement. Help!

Against.

My sink has 10" of practical depth from front to back, and the front of the spout comes about 2" in from that.

(It actually has 14" with the spout coming over the sink 4" but that's because it is an integrated sink that curves gradually from the counter area into the sink.)

Your sinks look tiny in the pics.

It's not that hard to replace a bathroom sink faucet yourself.

I do not do well with such small sinks. But if this is the size you must have, I'd need a less-obtrusive faucet to compensate for the smaller sink. Your faucet choice is lovely on its own, though.

You are going to want more than 32" for the toilet. 36" is standard (and perhaps even code in some areas???? Not here in Maine but I heard people saying that on other forums...) We have 34" and it feels fine but I dont think I'd want to go much tighter. You could solve that simply by flipping the closet and shower. So, have your shower -rotated 90 degrees and witha glass end wall- at the end of the tub (which is a nice setup you can see in many bathrooms, the tub deck can actually protrude under the shower glass wall and be a ledge or seat in the shower). Then the passageway moves to the left, and you can steal a bit of space from the other closet for the toilet. Either that of have a shorter vanity. 48" isn't a size I'd fight for. It's too short for a double vanity, really (unless you're using one of the new two-faucet 'trough" styles) so why not go down to 42" and have a better toilet area? For resale, though, you should consider a double vanity. Some people I guess expert truly huge ones, like at least 5+' long. But you CAN get smaller ones, Ikea has some great ones for tight spaces. But if you're not selling anytime soon, do what YOU like!! (But I still think you'll want more toilet space...)

If you were painting over an old fully-cured gloss, then you are correct, there could be problems painting over a semi- or gloss paint without using a de-glosser or scuff sanding to provide the new coat with a bit of tooth to grab on to, etc. But since you're doing this in one shot, the semi-won't be fully cured. I might have the specific terminology wrong, but paint has additives in it that help a new layer of paint bind to the previous as long as the previous isn't fully cured. That's how it was explained to me recently by a tech department guy, and I've never had a problem. If your painter is hesitant, you or he could call the tech department of the paint you'll be using and ask them. I usually ring them up every time they change formulations and ask a few questions. Comparatively, primers are high on binder and short on pigment, where paint is high on pigment and low on binder. If your painter was really hesitant and you really wanted that undercoat of a semi-, you could do semi-gloss, then prime, the topcoat with egg. But before going that route, I'd just do the following: just prime and then use a bathroom-rated eggshell for your two color coats. Exactly what you were going to do before I got involved and muddled things up! lol. My apologies!

olychick, thank you for taking a look. :) I'm relieved to hear you think a white shower pan is best. I am heading out now to find porcelain marble look tiles for the shower walls to pick up the gray as you suggested. I want a shiny finish to the walls. Tell me if you think that's a misstep. I am avoiding marble as I have a marble topped vanity now that is pock marked with etchings. As far as seeing myself in the vanity, yes, I think I will be able to do so. I was planning on a black framed mirror spanning the vanity. My current vanity is 32 1/4" high (as will be the new vanity) and when seated on my vanity stool my reflection is seen up to my chest. The only issue currently is that my knees are pressed against drawers. I failed to mention that I was thinking of using absolute black granite for the vanity top for two reasons: one being cost and the other being to avoid etching. Will doing so deviate too much from my inspiration? I would suggest contacting Kraus customer support (or the company you purchased it from). The faucet is still under warranty and if there is an issue, you want to make sure they are aware of it right away, so you are not responsible for it down the line.

You could try the Delta Cassidy. The height is 5 3/6" compared to the NB's 7 3/8". The spout height is the same but the reach is an inch shorter in the Cassidy. I have it with the 17" Kohler Caxton sink. I think you do want the spout height there so you have room to rinse your hands under the spout without bumping them into the sink. I really like the higher reach and have never splashed. I would pretend to wash my hands high and low to see which is more comfortable.

I think you opened up a new can of worms with the tiny sink though. It's set back quite a distance and I don't think it will be very comfortable leaning to wash your face. I would also expect lots of splash regardless of the faucet.

I think Mayflowers' suggestion keeps the style that you like but at better proportions for the size of the sink.

Amazingly, I was able to exchange these faucets for another NB faucet that will work, the Ayesbury, and I received them yesterday. Thank you everyone, you confirmed what I was feeling. The countertop people are also re-cutting the sink openings, the lip on them was 1/2" or more on both sinks, and will be cut back to 1/8". I have this exact same sink in a PR, and it's not as small as it looks. It works great for our uses (washing hands & brushing teeth). It's a deep sink. We both opted for more vanity and countertop space vs. a larger sink. Thanks again! I'll post pictures when everything is installed.

I would have a hard time using sinks that are set back that far from the counter edge, not good when you are prone to lower back pain.

I also used Newport Brass when I remodeled 2 bathrooms last year and would not use that brand again. Both faucets and towel/toilet hardware have had issues ... the small set screws do not stay tight and things loosen up and fall apart. Need to apply some lock-tight to keep things together, but have never had this problem with other brands.
