Did you mix your metals or try to stay consistent?
Comments (15)I think we obsess over things sometimes that only we will notice or even think about. I have mixed metals throughout the house, but tried to stay consistent in each room, not exact matches, but in same range, i.e. antigue brass with other dark finish. The kitchen is a mix. The faucet is shiny chrome, the appliances will be SS, the lighting fixtures are a dark bronze or brass (I can't remember) and I've yet to think about cabinet handles. Since the kitchen opens up into the dining area and great room I kept the sconces, chand and fans in the same color family. The only rooms that are really different from the rest of the house and done in pewter/silver, are the master bath and bedroom. Because of the very silver blue I'll have going on there I thought the pewter fixtures would be very pretty. The truth is the fixtures are actually modern and the rest of the house is more antique, old world style. I did remember to keep the hinges and door knobs the same on the interior doors. Didn't think of it until after DH hung the back and side exterior doors with hinges that are different than knobs. Guess what though, I've never once noticed it. I don't think people will be concentrating on the hinges on my doors, at least I hope not. HA! Here's something even funnier, I have not noticed the hinges on my new front door and let husband order the door locks and handles. I don't even know if they match and guess what, don't really care. Don't really think anyone will be looking at the hinges on the door, but rather the beautiful glass. LOL...See Morechrome faucet with other non-shiny metal fixture OK?
Comments (4)As I type this I'm pretty sure 10 folks will chime in and say\show they did it and it looks great (trust them not me as I'm going by my reaction not anything concrete). I think mixing finishes is not a problem and will look great ( I have seen many examples and plan to do it in my own remodel) but I'm not sure I would want to have a single chrome element and none anywhere else. Again that's not based on having actually seen it but is just a gut reaction. If you match the filter and the faucet it could be good and just pull in a chrome accessory or two....See MoreRules with mixing metals?
Comments (2)I'm not sure one has to limit to 2 or 3, but keeping, say, faucets the same, knobs the same, etc, is a good rule of thumb. as for how many metals to mix-I'd say depends on the space, and how much it can be repeated..not neccessarily in metal itself, but with color of other material reminiscent of metal I mixed the metals the most in master bath. I have there: polished nickel faucets and fixtures; antique brass drawer pulls and cabinet knobs; copper canopies and details on glass pendants that hang on black cords; and ORB door hardware. It sounds like a mess and I was deadly afraid when deciding to go for it; yet it looks pretty seamless, because: -polished nickel plays well with the wall tile and countertop marble(main color very warm gray) -ORB hardware repeats somewhat black pendant cords in its color -since marble has rusty golden streaks in it, copper in pendants canopies picks it up -the vanity is teak(lighter warmer brown) and the tile is shaped terracotta(darker warmer brown)..antique brass pulls I used on the vanity blend in with the vanity itself, and their shape repeats terracota shape. Nobody knows how much courage I put into this mater bath lol; I'm not even sure they see how different finishes are; they just see a space they like a lot. Repetition does wonders for harmony. you most definitely can mix ORB with either brushed nickel or polished nickel what I wouldn't do-I woudn't put polished nichel and brushed nickel together for example. Or i wouldn't pair nickel and chrome. They should be different enough to mix them properly. Oh, and of course I'm not a designer either. Just sharing my experience from a recent very long and big remodel. Of course one becomes braver after one tries something. I never liked to match anything; and now inclined even less so:)...See MoreDesign Help Needed! - Mixing metals in Kitchen......
Comments (38)I really like number 5, the white and gold one, but it's not right for the setting. Number 4 is very striking and would probably work. Number 3 is too mid/mod. For me, it's in the same category as 5 - cool but not right. Number 2 will be safe (three across). I don't like 1 or 6 at all. HTH...See Moresmm5525
