Uneven space when Garage Door is closed

I hope someone has a suggestion. I have a very old wood garage door. There has never been any kind of weatherstripping along the bottom of the door since I bought the house. Because of age, warping, repairs etc.., the door has a about a 1 1/2 inch gap along 2 feet where the door should meet the ground and in other places the gap is 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch. Leaves and other debris are always getting blown in, making a mess. A garage door repair guy said the kind of weather seal for my kind of door would not help because it is not wide enough to cover the 1 1/2 gap, and I should just buy a new door. That is not in the cards at the moment. I would like to find some kind of product I can nail along the bottom of the door to prevent the debris problem. Most of the weather stripping I see online is about an inch wide, I need something wider since some of the stripping width will be lost when I attach it to the door. Does anyone have any suggestion? Also I have seen those thresh hold strips that attach to the floor, but I'm not sure about those. Is it a tripping hazard? How well do they work? any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would trim a pressure treated 2x2 to match the varying gap between the door and threshold and then attach it to the bottom of the door (after painting). This is similar to the process of trimming a new wooden door to match the contours of an irregular threshold.

Okay, so I replaced the sprocket, that solved the jerking problem, now it is smooth when it opens and closes. However, it will not open all of the way (stops about 1 foot before it reaches the top) and when it closes, it tries to close too much and the bar gets bent up like it's going to snap and the door reverses and goes back up (but not all the way). I've adjusted the up and down limits and the force. I was able to get it to go up more by doing this (it originally only went up about 5 feet), but the down problem remains the same. When I manually open to waist height, it falls back down. Am I correct in thinking this is a spring problem and need to call a pro? Or is there something else I can try first?

No, I still haven't figured it out. A local garage door company told me to clean my optical sensors, which didn't solve the problem. I didn't try randy427's suggestion because I'm just not familiar with the door, nor confident enough, to try. The problem has actually gotten worse since I originally posted. I may try to play with it a little more, but I'm getting close to just having a new motor and hardware installed(that seems more cost effective than paying, say, 60% of the cost of a new one to have the old one repaired).

We had a similar problem and the fix was simply aligning the sensors. It is so easy for them to get bumped out of alignment.
