Just got a Ming Aralia and it's yellowing and dropping leaves fast
Comments (12)never allow a big plant to fully dry out - it will drop too many leaves and it takes them a long time to regrow. i would not recommend waiting until foliage droops - unless you are experienced and can catch it when it is in just a bit soft stage, but not drooping yet. on mings once it droops - it'll drop shortly after.. it likes to be very warm (80F) and humid (80%) - that's when it grows fastest. it needs filtered light, not straight on southern hot sun. if gets too hot AND dry - it drops leaves. please, post the pic of the whole plant. note, that most roots are in the bottom 1/3 of the pot, that's how they grow. so if it's dry on top - it's usually not a problem. while if it dries all the way thru to the bottom - you might not be able to rewet it. requiring soaking in a tub/sink to fully rewet the root-ball. also for that reason do not allow it to stand in water - as roots are fine ans sensitive and they will rot fast (foliage drop). i grow sev aralias for many years (about 6-7): ming, parsley and fern-leaf. i keep mine in west/nw in winter and move it to ne/e for summer, since west in summer gets too hot. i am in jersey city, across the river from NYC - so we're in same climactic conditions....See MoreHelp!! Comments (5)a late frost about a month ago, but I check this tree every day and only noticed the brown edges starting about a week or so ago. ==>>> youre not thing in tree TIME ... with a very superficial event ... with very minor damage.. it would not surprise me that it took a week or two to show up .. and it would not surprise me.. that it showed up after a mini heat wave ... i think you are a bit overly concerned about water ... lets not love it to death ... first year.. you are responsible for all water ... second year .. in the heat of summer or during drought.. check it.. by next year.. it should be free range ... i would expect in your area.. it simply has not been hot enough.. long enough.. for the soil to start going into drought ... and as to the frost ... this is sitting out in the lawn .. it could have gotten zapped.. but other stuff in the yard may not ... it might be your coldest micro climate ... =never forget tree time... when trying to figure out.. when something happened to a tree .. and.. those leaves are 90% unaffected ... they are doing their job ... ken...See Morepurple fountain beach dropped its leaves due to drought
Comments (7)i never understood why peeps want to cut off buds.. or wood.. in hopes of making new growth ... put down the shears.. and step away ... then go get the hose .... water deeply .. and properly.. and leave it alone ... its stressed.. not hungry.. imo.. fert is not a response ... you dont mention size at planting ... but it takes a tree up to two years to be free range.. and add year per extra feet in height ... saying its 2 years old.. doesnt help me.. with the above ... turn it around.. and be happy that it has the other half of the leaves ... if it releafs.. its wasting stored energy ... so i wouldnt hope for such.. i would rather have it storing that energy for next spring .... but if it decides to on its own.. so be it ... dont panic .... just water deeply ... ken https://sites.google.com/site/tnarboretum/Home/planting-a-tree-or-shrub...See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
