Katsura dropped its leaves

Marie Tulin

we are in drought, and belatedly I poured---carefully-- about 15 gallons of water around the katsura, which has been in the ground about 8 years and is about 20 feet tall. I used a 5 gallon bucket, poured on the root zone. It was very hot: in the 90's which is undoubably why I was finally motivated to take care of it

Within the next two days it shed about 1/3 of its leaves. I am certain that the leaves were not on the ground beneath the tree when I watered.

Not really worried: what happened, happened and we'll see how the tree fares next year. But I am very curious about what, if any, relationship there is between watering and the leaf drop or watering, heat and sudden leaf drop.

And I do understand that proximity of events is not the same as causality
