Small closet redesign

Hi, I have taken everything out of this triangular closet, including the shelves you see in the pictures. The holes have been filled and I'm ready to paint it Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams and I need ideas on how to make this space more functional.

Do you think the current layout is the best way to go or is there another way that I'm just not seeing? Pictures included below.

1. Stack everything you want/need to put back into the space (as though it was on those shelves) and see how much space you actually need, and how much space between the shelves will actually work best. I would definitely make it so there isn't anything stored on the floor.
2. I would replace the last shelf (the one with the red plastic tub) and move it up a few inches (just enough to go over the piece that juts out from the wall) and use a corner-style shelf (from the same material) to get more storage from that area on 2 walls, instead of just one. Then I would place one more corner shelf lower than that shelf. If space is a premium you can use narrower shelves than the ones you currently have in there on the two corner shelves.
3. You may be able to take the shelf you would be removing for the 1 or 2 additional corner units on the bottom, and put it up higher, about 12" under the top shelf.
4. The top shelf is often a waste of space since it's difficult to easily get to, so use that space wisely for things you don't need very often.

Dear all, I am designing a new house and we have liked pretty much everything in the current plan except perhaps the master closet. Somehow the layout does not seem like most efficient to me, and I am interested in sharing and hearing ideas about this arrangement. My choices are either to move the walk in closet to the extreme right wall (since as per the building rules we cannot have any clear windows there due to neighbor privacy). I am quite happy with the way the bathroom has shaped up, but would gladly consider another option if it gives me a similarly large vanity and shower, and enclosed WC (those are my requirements). But the main focus is on the closet; current plan is his-and-her, but that is not a must. Getting most storage from the space is important. Larger closet is 7'x5', smaller is 5'x5'. Easiest seems like it would be to demo the bathroom wall and extend the vanity all the way to the window. Are there any restrictions? Like are you willing to move the toilet and baseboard heat? Change windows? Do you need a bigger shower? More closet space?

Thanks for your responses! I've continued to play around with the design, and I found ClosetMaid Impressions and decided I liked the look of their product more than the Martha Stewart, and the cost is about the same. My new layout isn't drastically different. Again, walls A and C are mirror images of each other. I removed the corner shelf units because one would have interfered with the closet door, and I'll need space to store a laundry hamper on the floor for dirty clothes. I'm considering the flat surface. On A and C, I could put shelves above the drawers, leaving space open. I am just cautious about flat surfaces because I share the closet with a spouse who loves to fill flat surfaces with clutter. :-( I am cognizant of the need for space in the corners. If I decide it's too cramped, I can shorten the double-hanging space during installation. There will be a bench in the middle of the room for sitting while you dress.

You seem to have a bustling household! Nice job on organizing behind the front door. (My children like Highlights as well) 3 things: I would suggest painting the front door a clean bright white. Secondly, look up ‘molding on door’ on pinterest to learn how to apply simple shoe molding to your door. It would liven up that coat closet (and then of course, paint the closet a bright white as well). Last, have you heard of ‘Cutting Edge Stencils’? Look them up -36 dollars and a can of paint can change your walls.

It's hard to tell what the dimensions are. I'd be inclined to leave it without shelves and use it to store infrequently used stuff. If you have a lot of small stuff, you could stack storage bins.

I have a closet under the stairs but the triangle is in the back, not the side. I use it for misc long term storage and put the vacuums and sporting equipment near the front for easy access.

I would use adjustable shelving so you can use no more than the amount of room required.

Another technique is to corral small things into boxes with similar objects, and the boxes are sized identically to barely fit on the shelves.

What other functions do you want the closet to serve? Do you need to store any appliances in it, like a vacuum? I'm thinking it's a great place for luggage, travel needs, Aerobeds, sleeping bags, that kind of thing. What room is it off of? Is it easy to access? I'm imagining shelves across the back, depending on how deep it is. But definitely measure what you want to put in the here, and size the shelving accordingly.
