oooh, Ingrid, I'll tell DH we have lots of money. He'll be happy. :)) Here's a pic of Rosette Delizy that I just took. Diameter of flowers is about the same as length of leaves - less than 2". You might think this is a heat thing, but they were only a smidge larger in spring. Here's the bush. Quite wide and about 6' tall. Do yours and mine look at all like the same bush?? Location, location, location. Yellow teas here are quite disappointing to me except for Anna Olivier who maintains a huge petal count and diameter even now. She has the same almost white yellow color but is more pleasing to me due to size. Veronica, honestly, I didn't look for the pink wash since I could barely find the flowers, and they were more white than yellow, too. She's thornless and came from RPN so I'm sure she is MDC. Don't know what effect my soil may have on yellow teas. And truly, this summer my roses look pretty good, well leafed and blooming for the most part in the front anyway. Being in the ground, getting fed and watered more must be good things. :)) I'll mark you down as a vote for Alexander Hill Gray. It's good to know he's a good bet here. Too bad about Reubens. I read it's a beautiful rose. WRS's flower size now wouldn't bother me too much because of its shape if it really is like the Cochets. I'll try to be very discreet about what I dig up. It will almost kill me to dig up RD so I would rather not, but I think I would really like Carefree Beauty who really looks like he can put on a show - even though not an antique. Sherry

Hi Becky, there are many repeat blooming varieties available though they may not all be as prolific as Stella. As Jill said the daylily forum is a great resource. If there are any specific varieties you want to research more you can also go to db.tinkersgardens.com and enter the variety name in the "cultivar" field. It will usually bring up additional information on size, bloom time and whether it is a repeat bloomer, extended bloomer, etc... Some varieties may be repeat bloomers in some parts of the country but not necessarily others so be aware of that. Some of the more commonly sold rebloomers other than Stella De Oro that have been around a while are 'Happy Returns' (lemon yellow) 'Black Eyed Stella' (yellow with a red eye zone) and 'Pardon Me' (very red and one of my favorites). I've heard of some like 'Rosy Returns' and others in that series but they may be newer and more expensive or harder to find for sale locally. Sincerely, Danielle

Jim, Just stating that I have a bit under 50 roses in my one and only 8'x18' rose bed does not give a clear picture of the configuration. It would appear that my roses are crowded, but it's not so. I will give a rose by rose list with comments. There is a back fence to the bed, so roses are planted tall in the back, and short in the front. It's not an island bed with tall roses in the middle. On the fence, which extends beyond the 18' length of the bed, 4' in each direction, making a total climbing rose growing length of 26'. 1.) Lady Ashe, 2.) Climbing Pink Don Juan, and 3.) Quick Silver fill the fence. They are planted directly at the base of the fence and have great soil in which to spread their roots beyond the fence away from the rose bed and into it, too. The tallest roses, in from the fence are: 4.) Quietness - three bushes 5.) Aunt Honey 6.) Grand Dame 7.) Dee-Lish 8.) Scepter'd Isle 9.) Dame de Coeur 10.) Firefighter 11.) Sister Emmanuelle In the middle are: 12.) Beverly 13.) Pretty Lady Rose 14.) Milwaukee's Calatrava 15.) Purple Prince 16.) Miranda Lambert 17.) Earth Angel 18.) Sweet Fragrance - two bushes 19.) Apricot Candy At the front of the bed, short roses are planted, some at the very edge since the cement walk at the beds front edge sits on rich soil down quite a bit under it. Lavender Crystal 29.) Diamond Eyes 30.) Flawless 31.) Pope John Paul II - two bushes The short roses (minis are planted 1' apart), wrap around the front, left, and right sides of the bed. BTW, Jim, all the short roses, but Bolero, PJP II, and Apricot Drift are scheduled for shovelpruning over the next couple years, to be replaced with equally short, but less black spot prone roses.
