Comments (10)My DH & I are DJing a car show all weekend. Tonight I'm baking car-shaped cakes for chances & bread for a bake sale. We've volunteered at car shows ever since we first got together 14 years ago. We have games for the kids & adults, contests, rod jousting, a burnout competition, trophies & a dance in the evenings. We have a 1960 Chrysler Imperial & a 1960 Austin Healey Sprite (both unfinished) & an 03 Dodge Caravan with painted flames. We'll go to our city park to watch the fireworks (50% chance of rain here). Some years, we have fireworks at the car show. Have fun Karyn, I keep forgetting to get your stamps. We have a Jack Nicholson golf course at Rocky Gap State Park, maybe your husband would like to play there & we could visit. Golf = boring to me, too. Comments (13)All you pepperheads are soo blessed. My one huge desire this year, other than for Italian roasting peppers, was for poblanos and my worst fear came true, mislabled pepper plants. What was supposed to be was a couple of poblanos turned out to be Aneheims. That's part of the beauty of raising your own seedlings, you know what you're getting. However, as long as I can make Chili Rellanos with them, I'll still be a happy camper. Anyway, on today's menu from the garden will be sweet corn picked just before dinner time, NY Strips with roasted garlic butter from garden garlic. (I'm definately off my vegetarian kick.) Then, a tomato, green pepper and cucumber salad. I was surprised I've been having tomatos for a couple of weeks now, but that due only to a few large tom plants I bought for starters. The biggest and prettiest ones have been Parks Whoppers from my raised bed. Happy 4th to all, Barbara...See MoreWhat are you doing to celebrate July 4th?
Comments (18)For Nanny98, there are quite a few train museum groups around Northern California that offer rides. We are one of the largest and are on the east side of San Francisco bay. I'll attach a link. If you tell me what area you are interested in, I'll be glad to point you to a train group near you. I'm one of the few women brakemen on ours and we are probably the group with the most hands on women working, especially at our age. We have women engineers, firemen, track layers, and head diesel mechanic. We are treated well and work alongside veteran male railroad workers from many lines, some quite elderly. It's an all volunteer group with over 1000 members, about 350 who work on restoration and operations all year long. If you're out this way, come see us. Here is a link that might be useful: Niles Canyon Railroad...See MoreUser
