I'm happy for you, lulliirish, for finally getting your flag pole up. I hope that you can raise the flag on your own whenever you want to.....rather than wait for your husband. My Dad and two of my brothers served in the military, Robert's father, as well.

We have a flag holder on one of the columns on our front porch and the flag has been flying all weekend.

We proudly fly the flag and our state flag daily. And yes, they are properly lit.

I'm glad you got your pole and flag up. We'd never had a nice one, but there is a permanent metal pole installed in the driveway island bed of the house we bought three years ago. Our realtor gave us a flag as a housewarming gift, flown year round. Our coastal storms got the best of the gift flag last year and we took it down, before long DH was saying he missed it. So I replaced it and the halyard (my BIL, a former sailor helped me with that) after just a few weeks of not having one. In fact I bought two flags....when this one tears in wind, I'll be ready.

I have proudly flown Old Glory since 9/11....and our little town gave away flags for us to put at the end of our driveways...so they look so pretty lined up and down the streets...and of course, my wreath on my door.

I just took our Canadian flag down today. Canada Day is July 1. Happy Independence Day to all of my American friends!

I fly our flag every day. I put it out in the morning and take t down at dusk because I don't have a light. We have two sons who are vets. The military was an extremely positive experience for both of them, continuing on long after they retired. The 23 year old enlisted as a boy and came out as a man. The 21 year old enlisted as a man and came out as a superman.

I've had one flying since the Orlando massacre. There are lots of flags flying all around town. Many, many good deeds and donations afterwards have made me very proud to be an American.

I sometimes give the U.S. flag as a wedding gift - especially if it's a couple that already have established households and it's difficult to find an appropriate gift they might actually need.

Our flag is always out except in very heavy weather. I believe that if bombs/rockets red glare didn't destroy her, a little inclement weather won't either.

Yep, mine is out all the time too. It isn't a very big one, but I still fly it proudly. I, too, believe America is already great.

I would love to have a proper flag pole, but I always festoon my front yard with flags big and small. I'm proud to display them and yes, this year more than ever.

Mine is out, but wet, since we are having light rain showers. It's been out since Flag Day.

We put a flag up a year ago, and we take it down over the winter. It's flying from the balcony and we're always trying to tweak it so that it goes all the way around the pole. The weight at the flag at the top often makes it twist, but I think we finally have it so that it works.

My wife puts out a couple of rather small flag on a stick things. It's not a major display or a high effort thing. Me, I could go either way with doing that or not.

Our flag is out every day, not just on the holidays.....

First thing DH did, even before we made our coffee, at 6AM was to put out our flag.

Speaking of flags, I wish I had this one. Don't know where it is. Saw it on the internet. That took a lot of planning in the planting stage especially the stars.

My flag is out for 3 seasons. We will bring it in when it's going to be very windy or stormy for an extended time.

A realtor in our rural town went around and put medium sized flags in each yard down by the driveways in my neighborhood. It was a welcome surprise when we arrived home the other day.

Ours goes up in the morning and comes in at dusk. I like the ritual better than leaving it up. The current one has a 'sleeve' on a wood pole. It never stays twisted for long.

I didn't have the heart to fly our flag during "The Cheney Years". I love my country, but not "right or wrong".

I love that my flag is lit. Serves as lighting for our front door.

In regards to the Cheney years, I couldn't agree more. The "if you don't agree with us, you don't love this country or are not patriotic" BS.

Chisue, as luck would have it, my flag is flying on the correct side too. I didn't know there was a right and a wrong way.

Anyone's feelings for "The country" and any patriotism about it should be unaffected by the doings or positions of any temporary politician/office holder. The country is diverse and is the same from year to year, no matter who's in office and no matter what the government does or doesn't do. If you love the country, you should also respect the diversity of views (without needing to agree with them). That's a concept many don't understand or want to deal with.

The frequency of Americans' overt expressions of patriotism, along with the same of overt religiousity, are two things about the US that many Europeans find puzzling. Most people around the world (other than political dissidents, and often even them) have affection and pride for their countries, they just don't feel the need to express them publicly or as frequently as Americans do. The flag represents everyone and every point of view, not just one's particularly favorite position.

But of course! I love flying our flag. We have a very tall flag pole in front of our house. 99% of the time, we are the only 2 people who see it, but we see it all the time from inside the house or if we are on the verandah.

A realtor friend puts out 625 flags every year for the people in her neighborhood. This year, someone stole about a 100 of them Nice thing is that, after the story hit the paper, a Good Samaritan bought up every flag he could find and delivered them to her yesterday. She was able to get them put out in time for the 4th.

Today my Grandson is somewhere (navy) flying this country making sure WE ALL have our freedom, I so would hate for him to ever feel that because someone does'nt like a certain person they won't fly their flag! Just total appalling that someone could ever think this way about Our Country and all service members that are sacrificing for us. My flag flys proudly whoever else is in office!

I put out little flags and red, white and blue pinwheels on Memorial Day weekend and they came back out for this weekend. My husband is an 8 year veteran of the USMC. We fly the Corp flag all day, everyday. We don't have a way to properly light a US flag at this time or a schedule condusive to putting it up and down properly. So we do not fly one.

If it was only Cheney, that would be different. I have never felt so sad for us AS a nation. Waterboarding, renditions, grabbing people and imprisoning them for YEARS without an indictment or trial, accusing anyone who *questioned* of not 'supporting our troops' or not being a REAL American.

I thought I was experiencing Nazi Germany.
