No gutters and need some ideas. I am new to all of this...
Comments (6)We don't have gutters on our house either and one thing I can say, unless your yard slopes quite steeply away from the house you will get a snow mountain under the eaves in the winter. This may not be the same problem for you depending on what your house is made of (we have wood siding that the snow starts to slump and freeze against if we do not shovel - we have had to replace the whole back side of our house this past year as the wood was rotted through in places almost to the interior walls from 30 years of this kind of thing) but I would highly recommend some sort of material that you can shovel rather than small rocks. We've put a bluestone patio on one side of our house, in part to make snow removal easier and will be putting down a bluestone walkway with drainage underneath on the other for this purpose. On the upside, we've never had our roof damaged from ice dams backing up from the gutters!...See Morefirst time owner: kitchen layout ideas (need some coaching)
Comments (2)You are best to go introduce yourself to the kitchen forum, and post your dimensions (read their thread: "NEW to kitchens, read me first" (or something)). And, they will totally help you out in ways the remodeling forum only kind of can (lots of crossover, but the kitchen people really hang out on kitchens). Also, when you do post there, don't reply to your own thread before someone else does; otherwise your thread will drop down. As long as it is "unanswered" it stays on the first page. But, if you do as you did here, your post will drop down and because that is a very busy forum, it may get "lost"... So, best to get everything on one post, then wait for someone to reply before you any details you forgot....See MoreFirst open concept home- new build- I need help placing furniture!
Comments (13)I suggest take the island back to the original size and make the opening to the dining room smaller. If the opening is half as big, you'll have room for the TV to go on the new wall you create from the large opening. Then a 3-seat sofa and four swivel chairs can be squared up in a "U" out in the middle of the great room space. I would also eliminate the French doors onto the screened porch. You have so little wall space for anything but a table, and a rug won't work if that door swings into the room. Rug will need to be 36-42" larger than the top of your table and not run into walls, furniture on the walls or doors. Move the French doors to the bedroom at the north of the screened porch. You may need smaller scale than shown here, especially the coffee table....See MoreFirst time refinishing some furniture! Think I might need some help..
Comments (35)Hi guys! Just a little update that I'm very happy about! The wood stain arrived today (the sanding paper and top coat haven't yet, but should by the end of this week). I had just about enough sanding paper to really sand one of the drawers to perfection so I did a test on it with the stain... and the colour I picked is really close to the original! It's still a tiny bit more orangey, but overall I'm super pleased. I took the pictures 20min after painting so I don't think it's completely settled yet, and it still needs that matte clear water based topcoat, so it's not the final colour/finish yet. Just very happy I haven't ruined this piece and will be able to restore it to my liking :) Sanded, new stain, original (it looks more orange on the picture.. in real life it's almost indistinguisable)...See MoreLynnNM
