That was early! It's not a pleasant experience, but not the worst either. Keeping eyes covered is a good way to go. Hope you get A+ results.

I had a weird MRI experience last year. It was an open room with office equipment and other stuff nearby, though I guess not close enough to the machine to fly over there. They put me in the machine fully dressed including my bra with metal in it! I was really surprised but they said it was fine with their machines. It all worked out but it was very different than the first MRI I had about 10 years ago.

When do you get the results? And how are you feeling?

Thanks! I should know in a week and a half the results. Actually, the doctor will know in that time. If I don't hear from him in a timely manner, I'll get on him. I had to call him twice for the CT results, when I didn't hear anything for about 3 weeks.

Chi, I'm shocked about the bra and being fully clothes. He was adamant about not wearing a bra or anything metallic. With the questionnaire the first question was if I've ever had a piece of metal in my eye.

As far as operations, he wondered if there was any kind of a metal shunt or anything at all. At least, because it was my head, I didn't have to have the contrast injected.

For those that didn't know, since the beginning of the year, I get sharp pains in my temples and forehead when I bend down for any reason. Putting the cat dishes down, cleaning the litter, getting pots and pans from the bottom cupboard. Oh, and also when I cough. Thank heavens I haven't had my usual bronchitis.

I went for a CT scan in January and they didn't find anything, so the MRI was the next step. I saw on the CT report today that they did it in my sinus area, etc, and everything is normal.

Today was for the brain. All I can think of is an aneurysm, but I'm just thinking negative thoughts. I don't even know if headaches is a symptom of that.

I pray all test results prove nothing is wrong, Jas. I've had symptoms like yours throughout my elder years and in my case...it's always been a pinched nerve...or spinal disk/nerve related issue...at the base of my neck....that comes and goes with my lazy posture as well as my sleeping positions. Sitting at this PC can bring on problems if I don't sit correctly...with spinal support. Scared me half to death until I figured out what was causing the problem. I don't wish any such problem for you...but...a pinched nerve issue...or disk out of alignment...sure would be a lot less frightening than what you're imagining now.

4:30 in the morning?!?!? YUCK!!!! I've had MRI's...but they were kind enough to schedule them for a lovely afternoon. Then again...I warn anyone looking to appoint me that I don't do before 9:00 AM anymore.

I think if there was anything really serious like an aneurysm, you would know very quickly. The technician isn't allowed to tell you but maybe they can flag it for fast radiologist review if they see something.

You're right, Chi. They don't let you get too far from that machine if they see something wrong. I can attest to that from experience. If you had an aneurysm, Jas...they wouldn't have allowed you to leave the hospital. On that note...you can sleep peacefully tonight.

Hope everything is ok. Just so you know though there are a ton of things it can be, stuff you would have never even thought of and a lot of which it isn't serious (even though the different pains can hurt like heck), so try not to worry.

Today I had my mammogram and a bone density test. They want me back for sonar imaging as I have a big mass in my left breast.

Snidely, it's kind of my fault that it took till now to get the MRI. I wanted the doctor to schedule it after I finally got the clean results from the CT scan. He believed that I have sinus headaches, but from what I've read, etc, I disagreed. He wanted me to come in so he could check. I didn't want to go to his office and be placated, and I was seeing him in April anyway for a regular checkup. I waited till then, instead of going to see him twice. He didn't even mention the possibility of sinus headaches, (I read the CT results today while waiting for the MRI and they said that the sinuses were clear and the CT showed normal). He could have booked the MRI when he got the results of the CT himself. I asked for an MRI when I saw him in April.

Jasdip, I hope that you can finally get a diagnosis and that it's nothing life-threatening.

Audrey, please keep us in the loop about the mass. My mom is a 15 year survivor of breast cancer. Medicine is amazing!

I have 3 aneurysms in my brain, a few years ago I had a hemorrhagic stroke when the largest one ruptured. Aneurysms usually don't cause symptoms unless they rupture though.

Trance, 3 aneurysms!!! Are you on tenterhooks, and careful with what you do?? Especially when you had one already. My gosh I'd be afraid to move.

My thoughts are with you as well.

My younger half-sister is like Trancegemini with multiple aneurysms. She was completely asymptomatic and got checked when her mom developed aneurysms. The physician indicated that they were a type that he would consider genetic.

Honestly, I kind of choose not to think about it. I do have to get cerebral angiograms from time to time to check on them. Afaik, there are different risk factors like size or location of the aneurysm and some of them don't really need treatment.

Well...I hope they find *something*! "All clear" doesn't help you with the pains. Let's hope your MD discovers something easily treated. Good thing you evidently were not 'an interesting case'!

I wonder if you might have a Chiari Malformation. Among the various symptoms the ones you are having are included. I had a horrible mri experience, the person performing it was fired for what happened that same day. If I was the type to file lawsuits I would have had a doozy and they knew it. Only type I have now are open tube no closed tubed. I hope you get good results and it's easily fixed.

My last MRI experience was at a medical school's orthopedic clinic where I went for a sports injury. When told an MRI was needed, I asked the doc if they had open units. She laughed and said "The open ones make for good PR but lousy images. Unfortunately, we have the uncomfortable ones but they produce high resolution images we can use". That was 3 years ago, maybe the technology for the open ones has improved. Or maybe not all agree with her.

ravencajun - I suggested the same thing in a message as well. I also have Chiari Malformation, and the symptoms sound very similar.

I have a good friend that has it. Similar complaints to Jasdip. Should be able to get a diagnosis by mri if they are looking for that. I would definitely mention it.

ACM is what I have also. I talked about it here at the kt many times. The MRI that I am suppose to get is so they can compare it to the last one. This is because the condition has gotten so much worse. I have severe headaches 21 or more days each month. Because of my age I'm not a candidate for decompression surgery. I have found after talking with many who have had the surgery, that within a year their symptoms returned.

Jasdip - I hope that your results reveal that there is nothing wrong. I for one am not at all surprised at the length of time it took for your MRI to be booked (just think if you were in Toronto!).

Of course there is the issue of what exactly is wrong if the MRI is clear

I went to the ENT last week. My hearing is superb. My doctor made the referral for me after determining that the hearing in my left ear was poor and had been for 2 months. Murphy's Law being what it is, as soon as the appointment was booked my left ear cleared. The ENT told me to call him directly should the issue return. Of course in Ontario I would need a new referral should the issue not represent itself within 12 months. But nothing you can do. It is kind of ironic that I have been to an ENT and while everyone in my husband's family has hearing issues they have kept putting it off.

I will watch for your hopefully good results. But it is always better to know - good or bad. I kept my appointment with the ENT just in case.

I haven't been keeping up, I didn't know either. I hope everything is ok. Let us know the results.

I heard from the doctor's office and everything is normal. I didn't have my computer on, so I couldn't tell them about the additional information provided by Raven and Crazybrunette. I did tell them that I want them to look deeper and that I'll bring more information when I see him on August 9.

Oh, I'm glad it didn't show anything scary, but I know you must be very frustrated. Has the pain changed at all?

Coughing......just one single cough (not having to be a blown-out coughing fit) makes my head hurt as does when I bend down, still. Hubby has taken over the cleaning of the litter-boxes :-)

Jasdip, I like the word normal (a lot!) but can understand your frustration. Many people with Lyme or co-infections, particularly Babesiosis, report severe headaches. Possibly something to consider, as Canada has ticks.
