SanDisk Flash Drive problems

32GB SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 with lots of photos and other files in it, It has worked perfectly for 5 months. Now when I plug it into my Dell Windows 10 computer, a box comes up showing [The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted]. Is there any way to get this drive open or to get the files from the drive? Thank You

I can't offer a fix, but I can mention a preventive measure once the situation is resolved:

With Windows versions up to Win 8 anyway (you Win 10 users can correct me if changed) , it's important to "dismount" connected external media before disconnecting them. There's an icon on the taskbar that should say "Safely remove hardware and eject media". Before removing thumb drives, USB drives, or memory cards, that icon need to be clicked on and the item intended to be disconnected needs to be identified, so that Windows can end communications with it and allow for a safe disconnection. Failure to do that can corrupt files stored on the media and make them not accessible.

Should you find that too hard to do, shut down the PC and wait until it is completely off before removing the external memory device.

Insert your flash drive, then go to Start and File Explorer scroll down the left side to see Sandisk, your photo's and files should be there.

When doing this, It does not show SanDisk but it shows file E. When clicking on it, It says You need to format it before I can use it. It also has a place to click on, [format now] Am I not doing this right?

That sounds good, as it would mean only one click was necessary to display the contents of the thumb drive. But how can I set WE to a default that represents the thumb drive? It won't show a thumb drive at all--much less its contents--unless there is actually a thumb drive in a USB port. The problem is probably that I don't understand how to set WE to start with the "C: root directory." My WE always comes up with a listing to the left that starts with Favorites, Libraries, etc., and C: is a bit down the list. I never used WE (from the Start button) much and have just realized that it is apparently the same thing as "My Computer," which I have been double-clicking on for a connection to the thumb drive. If I click on WE, which I do have pinned to the taskbar, and then one more click on the name of the thumb drive, that's two clicks to see the contents of the drive. One less click than if I click on the My Computer icon on my desktop. So thanks to you, I now only have to make two clicks, instead of three. Perhaps that is the fewest clicks I can hope for. Granted, the old autorun way only required one click, so I would only be saving one click anyway; but hubby and I are translators who both work on the same job, so we are constantly swapping thumb drives back and forth, and it gets old going through a series of clicks every time. If I had never known the convenience of autorun, I would be taking things in their stride and not be complaining.

Are the files on the flash recoverable from another location? Or are they your only copies?

do not format the flash this will erase all on it. Have you tried to update all USB device drivers? and have you tried the flash drive in a different port on your PC?

fwiw; I have a sensitive usb/hard drive adapter... if its usb cord falls out without the proper eject... I can simply plug it in while computer is powered off... start the computer and it shows the problem, Restart the computer and it fixes it.
